This is the most common pro-Palin explanation I have heard.

It makes me sad, because you only have to pay SLIGHTLY closer attention to see that Palin is FULL of nonsense, and that she has been completely manhandled by the Republican party, ie, 100% susceptible to politics.

Palin Preps For Debate

She's so popular in parts of vote-rich Ohio she's got her own corn maze. On Monday, Palin was in the buckeye state with John McCain.

"I do look forward to Thursday night and debating Senator Joe Biden," said Palin. "I'm looking forward to meeting him too. I've been hearing about his senate speeches since I was like in 2nd grade." ...

(Why do I think that's a crock?)

...John McCain is dismissing the critics saying crowds clearly love governor Palin. In northern Virginia the opinions are strong.

"I find her to be absolutely scary. I have a lot of children and one of my children is disabled. And I'm a full-time caretaker. But I don't think that qualifies me for a presidential office," said voter Julia Mainieri.

One mom of three says the more she sees of Palin, the more she likes her.

"I like her sort of no nonsense attitude. It seems like she might not be as susceptible to Washington politics," said Sarah Reju.

With those 2, it could be a ramblefest.  The one who can curb his or her tongue the best will win.

I think  McCain folk made a mistake by cloistering her for most of the last month from the press. It will be difficult for her to clear this hurdle all at once.  I'm not sure if the expectations for her have been lowered.  She certainly did herself no favors with the Katie Couric interview.  This appears to me to be more of an unveiling, which will keep the expectations in place.

A US Congressman quoted on MSNBC this morning:

"Expectations are so low that if she gets through the debate without drooling on herself, she will be seen to have won."

After campaigning with McCain today, Palin will head to McCain's Arizona ranch to hunker down with Rick Davis, Steve Schmidt et al to prep for the debate.

I think they are counting on Thursday night's debate to be everything the opposition claims it won't be, and they are counting on it to be a big surprise. I think there is 24/7 coaching going on to get Palin ready for Thursday. And it's not necessarily coaching to bring her up to speed on everything she obviously does not know. Palin is good on the attack, whether the basis of her attack is sound or not. The "not-on-the-issues" campaign strategy recognizes that facts don't really matter, impression and belief are what matter.

I'm thinking we will see the pit bull, without her lipstick, come charging at Biden with her moose gun blazing on Thursday night. She will repeat her rehearsed lines and then attack Biden at every opportunity. There will be a repeated refrain, different from McCain's "Senator Obama doesn't understand", but just as pointed and effective.

Watch for it.

Used to be easier to get in the states than in Alberta—there was some kind of law making it very difficult to transport between provinces. Might not be true anymore.

I like Labatt's Blue better anyhow.

Edit: and I'm gonna be drinkin' Dancing Trout Ale. What do I look like, some kinda commie?

(Can you buy Moosehead in the Excited States, or is it only in Canuckistan?)

Sarah Palin Vice Presidential Debate Drinking Game

Moosehead Sales to Soar from Thursday Night's Debate

RULES OF THE SARAH PALIN VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE DRINKING GAME

—Take a chug of Moosehead beer whenever Sarah Palin says the following:

maverick

reformer

any sentence including the words "neighbor" and "Russia"

small-town values

Gwen or Joe (remember how many times Palin said "Charlie" during the Gibson interview?)

off shore oil drilling

Alaska

"Thanks but no thanks!"

witchcraft (not likely...but hey, you never know, especially if Kathleen Parker's name should pop up)

—Take two chugs of Moosehead whenever Sarah Palin does the following:

Utters a coherent sentence (i.e., contains a subject and a verb and makes logical sense)

Talks about her new friend Henry Kissinger or Hamid Karzai

Explains how being the part-time mayor of Wasilla, Alaska with a full-time city
manager counts as executive experience

—Chug a whole bottle of Moosehead if Sarah Palin mentions the following:

Palin Presidency

On second thought, make that two bottles of Moosehead.
