Agreed. There are some things I've written here that don't exist anywhere else, and it's sort of a record of where my head's been over the past 12 years. I also really treasured many of the comments, but as others have pointed out, those are often lost in the sea of "former member" data barf.

This was a problem. If one who later became a "former member" had commented on a journal, that comment would be multiplied by the number of former members on the site, an ever-growing number. At least that is how I understood it.

I think one of the reasons the journals lost some charm was an unfortunate side effect of past members insisting that Bill delete their history. It left the journal comments in a mess often deleting comments from current members and replacing them as duplicates of the deleted past member so saving the old journals for some kind of archive is pretty much useless if the comments are of any interest.
