If anyone hasn't seen Arrival, you should. It's a fake out, since it looks like nerd stuff (which it is) but that's the outer layer of a remarkable meditation on the meaning of our life, in the really really big picture.
And, in the book, her counterpart is more integral to the tale since the aliens show little interest when he tries to engage them via one version of physics but are more interested when he can explain another. What? A different type of physics????
This article does a nice job with an introduction to Lagrangian physics. And why would that have something to do with this movie? Actually, it ties it all together.
I hated the prequels for many reasons. Rogue 1 was pretty good and a nice tie in. There are some components that just didn't work for me (cgi characters were really distracting), but it walked the line between good story and nostalgia easter eggs pretty well. I'm nervous about episode 8. JJ Abrams has a bad record for good reboot with bad follow up. Hopefully some one will keep him in line.
Cool, I'm not expecting Rogue 1 to be great - but it sounds like it kept you entertained. I heard it's the darkest of the Star Wars movies. Speaking of walking the line between nostalgia and a good story, The Force Awakens probably overdid the nostalgia; in some ways it seemed a bit like a "greatest hits" compilation of the best elements of Star Wars & The Empire Strikes Back. Still enjoyable for me though.
BTW, JJ Abrams isn't directing the next Star Wars movie, which is probably good. I agree that his Star Trek followup was lackluster.

Rogue 1 inspired me to do something I've always wanted to do—watch all the Star Wars episodes in order (not in order of release, but in "order"). So in the spirit of holiday binge-watching, I did the 3 prequels, then went to see Rogue 1, and now I'm doing the New Hope/Empire Strikes/Return of the Jedi and never did see the new one last year, so I'll end with that and be all caught up.
I have to say...the transition from all of today's stunning CGI back to the primitiveness of 1977 technology, cheesy constant background music and dialogue was a little jarring, but hilariously so.
I can't believe I was eleven when it all started.
Critics warn people not to introduce their kids with this chronological order, or it'll spoil the "I am your father" secret.

I actually prefer the older ones, but again I rebel against all modern technology. lol For example I think the original Star Trek is far superior than any of the following incarnations, CGI be damned! lol
