Yeah, Goliath always kept him out of trouble whenever Davey had a dubious idea, plus Davey and his friends would show up in episodes of Gumby sometimes, as nameless/uncredited extras. Art Clokey was brilliant.

On those Sunday mornings as a kid when I faked not feeling well so I wouldn't have to go to Sunday School I would watch Davy and Goliath. So corny and beautiful.

This post outlines my personal views about my own species,  Humans.
I discovered at age 58 that I am autistic—-measurably verified as "on the spectrum" by a mental health professional.
(Ten years later, I'm still waiting for my Handicapped Parking Sticker)
It is this "outside looking in" experience that has prompted me to study Humans.  I believe it takes this kind of 'distance' to see
the Big Picture (about Humans) objectively rather than subjectively.

(To put it very simply,  I view Humans as Monkeys Wearing Clothing. While it may or may not be actual fact, seeing us this way
is useful. Why? Because it explains everything we do!

As Arthur Schopenhauer pointed out, Humans must be some kind of mistake.  A lame wise man (representing the Intellect) riding
on the shoulders of a giant (The Will, our Primate Biology).  The body is strong and wants what it wants! Also, the body cannot change what it wants.
It will override the Intellect just about any time there is a conflict.

Humans are not biological computers—we are Feeling Machines. We feel our way though life, and find it very difficult to ignore our own cognitive biases.
And we prefer to "go with our gut" than to carefully think the situation through.  This  "go with your gut" tendency prompts us to  turn and attack any idea that
conflicts with what we Want to Feel.  In simple terms, Civilization is like a thin coat of paint that scrapes off far too easily, revealing our Primate nature.
We tell ourselves we are the 'pinnacle of evolution' or 'made in the image of < some bearded white guy living in the sky >.  God must have a sense of humor—look at how It "created" us!

What separates us from the other Primates?  We  applaud our Prefrontal Cortex, that new part that makes Homo Sapiens superior (or so we like to tell ourselves).
Our brains are actually three separate brains—-a commitee composed of a Reptile Brain (basal ganglia/medulla oblongata) , a Monkey Brain (the Limbic System), and a Human Brain (Prefrontal Cortex—that's the part that we tell ourselves makes us "superior".

We tell ourselves a lot of comforting whoppers and tall tales about how great Humans are—and then experience cognitive dissonance.
In other words, the Map doesn't match the Road.  And in every case, it's not the Road that's wrong, it's the Map we have chosen to follow.
And then, instead of examining the Road more closely, we blame the Map.  Throughout Human history, those who have tried to teach a better Map were murdered
by those who insist their map is superior, and you should follow their map instead of your own.  Pointing to those famous humans we killed for being too different—such as Jesus & The Bhudda,  Or anyone who questionss the group mindset.

We endlessly procrastinate...it isn't an emergency unless we discover a fire in OUR own hip pocket. Then we endlessly choose short term personal gains over beneficial long term changes.
Not so laudable now, are we? I'm not pointing this all out to shame anyone.  I believe it's better to acknowledge our own Human nature up front—take it into account, try to 'live around it".

Not optimistic about our chances here on this planet.  This may be the answer to the Fermi Paradox—"intelligent life" strangles itself in its own BS.  If we Humans manage escape this planet in our current form, we'll overpopulate and pollute the entire universe, one galaxy at a time.
