Reasons why we love our veterinarian(s) #1:

A month or two ago, Olive Browndog broke a toenail doing something, she came inside and was bleeding a little but really licking her paw and limping. We took her to the vet in the a.m. and he knocked her out, cleaned up the nail, crazy glued it together because it was splitting up into the paw, gave her a shot of antibiotic and some pills, gave her  a shot to bring her out of the anesthesia and sent us home: a little under $100. My sister's dog did the exact same thing and had the exact same treatment from a different vet: $280.

Some time ago Annabel was traumatized at the vet's office. We have since found a nice lady vet who makes house calls for no more than an office visit.

they didn't

just antibiotics

but if i thought she needed that i'd ring them up and score

i know dogs feel pain but they seem to express it less

not sure of the science on that

i've witnessed the vet give my dog a huge shot (relatively speaking) and she didn't flinch

Our friend got sprung from the hospital finally, so we are back down to two pups. I got used to having Poppy around, but am glad for them that they are back together.

I'm fine, and angry. She was on leash (pinch collar) and I had her at close heel because an out-of-control (but also leashed) poodle something was passing by, lunging at us. Can't be sure if that dog wanted to play or fight. In any case, as they passed, Little Girl got behind me and launched herself, catching the side of my thigh in her mouth. She just had to bite something as hyped up as she was. Puncture wound, broke the skin.

I gave her a very, very sharp correction and I know she felt it. I'm trying to get past it but I'm pretty much sulking that I can't trust her when she's excited. I realize there's no point in punishing her or shunning her at this point, but I am still very angry. And I'll be angry when she's wrapped up in a blanket on my lap tonight as we watch a move. And when she snuggles me tomorrow morning. Dammit.

We went through a few with crazy rescue dog Silver.  I know it sucks but remember they are so much better at living in the now. That event was over for them 30 seconds after it happened. The current mope isn't guilt it's wonder why you are mad. Getting past it will help you both.
