I think the lowest is 7.99 for just streaming.

The "New Releases" is all B (or C) movies and old old movies. They used to throw in a few hits... but lately? not. Thanks. I gave up Netflix a few years ago because I noticed the same. With all the hoopla lately I wondered if it'd changed but couldn't really check on what it offered without re-joining.

If Netflix were truly unleashed, it would be a cable killer.
It also varies from area to area. My sister in N. Kentucky has a great distributor and always gets her first choices right away. Mine is based in Columbus, and SUCKS. I put them on hold all summer b/c I wasn't getting what I wanted. I couldn't get no satisfaction. I resorted to Red Box. (And.......I was too active outdoors to watch movies) I'm giving them one last chance over the winter.......

The studios control what can be watched instantly by contract agreements so Netflix is not really to blame. And from a business standpoint why would the studios want people to watch a "hit film" instantly if they can still get a number of disc sales out of it. It's the same principle as holding back new releases for a month form Netflix rentals, an attempt to boost disc sales. Though I personally think it is a stupid decision. Most people will just wait a month. There is enough to watch, read or do that I can what a month for a movie I want to see. And it probably seems worse 'cause you have already watched the "good" stuff.

*Raises hand here*
I signed up with Netflix when I got my Roku box, the very first three selections I searched for were only available on DVD — very disappointing. But surprisingly all three can be viewed instantly on Amazon, but its pay per view there, no monthly plan. I just signed up for Hulu Plus and am beginning to think about canceling Netflix completely.
One of my first choices was the hilarious British "Jeeves and Wooster" series starring pre-"House" Hugh Laurie, its been on DVD for years so if they haven't made it instantly viewable by now they never will. I think I might post a recommendation for that in the "Movie recommendations" thread...
