Thus grew the tale of Wonderland: Thus slowly, one by one, Its quaint events were hammered out - And now the tale is done, And home we steer, a merry crew, Beneath the setting sun.

"If you're going to go, so. If you're going to stay, stay. But don't ooze out." - My grandmother.
All too often, her guests would say it's time for them to go, they'd put on their coats and boots, then stand at the door and talk for 10 more minutes. She had little patience for that behaviour. It was always said in a pleasant manner, but she was firm about it at the same time. That saying always made me smile.

(In the '60s) there was madness in any direction, at any hour … You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was `right’, that we were winning … And that, I think, was the handle–the sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply `prevail’. There was no point in fighting–on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave …. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark–the place where the wave finally broke and rolled back. –Hunter S. Thompson, “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”

Great nations write their autobiographies in three manuscripts, the book of their deeds, the book of their words, and the book of their art. Not one of these books can be understood unless we read the two others, but of the three the only trustworthy one is the last.

When you view art during Hitler's reign, the hand writing , so to speak, was on the wall. Hitler destroys art.or The Big Bonfire

The public will never be concerned about global warming or the greenhouse effect. These words just aren't scary enough. Global seems all-encompassing, warming connotes comfort, green equals growth and house equals shelter. Growth, shelter and all-encompassing comfort. Doesn't sound like much of a threat. Relax.

Several months ago, a friend of mine told me that while he was cleaning his garage he threw his back out. I told him it was probably over-enthusiasm. Sometimes when you're cleaning, you get carried away and throw out something you intended to keep. The next time I ran into him he seemed to have learned his lesson. He had recently cleaned out his attic, but this time he didn't throw his back out. He gave it to Goodwill.
