Really?  I lived most of my life close to your stated location, and I didn't think they were bad.  Maybe not Loozeeanna, but not bad.  I was knitting while I watched.  A couple of times, I was looking down at my work when Paquin was talking, and I had to look up to be sure it wasn't Holly Hunter.

Most southern accents are just so exaggerated in movies & TV shows, in my opinion. I'm sure the accent would be more pronounced in a smaller town than it would be in Greenville (where I live), which has around 100K people, but it was so pronounced on the show, it was a distraction for me.

I agree completely. As a southerner, I was offended at how bad those accents were.

Once I got past the accents, I liked the show alright. I've never read the books, so I didn't really know what to expect from the storyline, but I thought it was pretty good.

Thank FSM!  I've set my DVR to catch it when it's on HBOHD.

That's Alan Ball, also the creator of the movie "American Beauty".  Much of "True Blood" was filmed right here in my home town (known in the series as "Bon Temps" aka "Good TImes").

I can't wait.  Thanks for the heads up.  I didn't realize it was starting next Sunday....

HBO Original Series are all extremely well done.  (Based on your emoticon, I'm guessing "Gossip Girl" and "Buffy" weren't all that great....

The southern vampire "Dead" series by Charlaine Harris is coming to HBO Sunday. True Blood.

From Alan Paul, who created Six Feet Under.

Should be fun. Somebody watch it for me, willya? We're upgrading to digital cable today (a consequence of a borken VCR) but didn't spring for premium channels. Typical cheap me.

So all you Sookie Stackhouse fans - enjoy!

The Universe turned me onto the books.  I've read the first three and really enjoyed them.  The previews look great, don't they?

I'd forgotten the show was being made, and when I saw the previews, it felt like I'd seen it before.  So I looked it up on imdb, read the names, and said whoop.  Can't wait!
