I didn't read the original post as proposing banning anybody. He just wants an ignore filter so he doesn't have to read posts from users who offend him.

I think the idea might have merit.

The person wants other posters banned if they do not hold up to this person's standards. S/he didn't say that s/he wouldn't read them, that they should be banned. Thrown off the island, as it were. Kind of like what had been tried earlier, a place where one person got to decide who said what.

ps: before the censorship issue rears it's ugly head, this isn't a newspaper, it's a series of conversations.  once a user has demonstrated a lack of respect for my personal standards of conversation, i'd like to never read another of their posts.
