Absolutely did I forward Rose's contact info to the client and a couple others as well.
They have special needs so I'm just gathering up as many prospective contractors
as possible in the hopes that one of them is just right for this particular jobbo.

I posted this 6 months ago; they hired someone who was literally the first person through the door. She wasn't very good, and her immediate sort-of supervisor who is not a good teacher wound up making her leave. So anyway, they're hiring again. This time, though, the supervisor... is on the ropes. Whoever gets this job will be in a very good position to move up to career-level employment. And believe it or not, despite the personnel soap opera they've been going through, I do think this would be a good job for a young person to move here for... OR for an experienced person to take who just wants to get some fresh air. Work in a nice newer facility with friendly (for the most part) people, on up-to-date equipment, and (important for any designer) be almost 100% free to design some projects as you see fit.

If I were not loyal to my current boss, I would take the job myself. I'll probably be doing some fill-in work going into the holidays anyway, since their current designer gave notice thru next Friday and they'll be without anyone.

Exactly, Do it!  Nothing to lose.  I would expect your perseverance would be in your favor with a potential employer.  {#Good-vibes}

This is the first time I've ever seen items like THIS in the KSA's....

- Thrive in and know your way around the proverbial water cooler
- Aggressive jaywalker who is comfortable with risk-taking (and of course safety)
- Most importantly, desire to work for a company and a team where blue sky thinking is the new normal

It's also one of the most intriguing and high-tech writing jobs (think Star Trek...or at least Siri) I've ever come across, at a HUGE worldwide company that's right in my backyard, currently. This sounds right up my alley.

This cover letter has got to be well crafted and flawless......

I like bullet items on a resume - quick, concise, lots if info and easy to read. I think the cover letter should leave them out though. The cover should be more descriptive - I'm the best person for this job. All the time I've spent at X,Y,Z has been the perfect preparation for coming into your shop and being productive on day one. I'm also great because pu.ppies love me and I volunteer with the elderly on Tuesdays.....

Again a couple paragraphs as most, and ~ 1/3 of page coverage so that people will bother to read it.

Oh good. My main paragraph is all over this one.    Yay.

First of all, I don't think most people who submit resumes investigate this, so anything you do that makes it look nice and neat with correct spelling automatically puts you ahead of the pack.

Secondly, if you find the magic bullet that gets your resume looked at, please let me know. I have revised mine every time I send one out, but rarely get a response.

Dear hiring manager, or just "Hiring manager" is fine. Worry less about the salutation than the content.  Don't just regurgitate the resume that will follow, put one or two clear, concise paragraphs about why you're the one for the job. If you print it and the page is more than 50% text, there is too much there. 30-40% is a better target, there should be a lot of white space or it will get passed over.

What is an appropriate salutation for a cover letter these days?

For instance, if the company is The Joe Schmoe Corporation, obviously you don't say, "Dear Joe Schmoe Corp"

What do you say?

EDIT: Also, "To Whom It May Concern" seems antiquated and impersonal.

Well, that's the thing. That's what I had been using - because a few years ago it was acceptable. But just recently a friend had her friend (with a very high up job in a company I keep applying to) go over my resume and cover letter, and she nixed the "Dear" idea.

I should ask her what SHE uses.

Thanks....

No, it's a sort of sister publication (long story) and I've worked there but like my current gig more.

It's a good job for someone with the education (2-year is great) and maybe some year or two of experience but needs something a step above entry-level. And someone who knows a lot could take on more responsibility pretty quickly. I would think some young person who wants to play in the mountains for a couple of years could really fit in well. The office is nice, some great people work there. And some weirdos.

Sorry, we're behind the times here. There really isn't another person at the place who would have the same responsibilities. If there were, say, 3 working side by side, one could be responsible for putting the work orders into the computer... but right now everything comes in handwritten.

Reading between the lines, though, it really would be a good job for someone with a couple of years' experience who wants to have a job with a pretty high level of responsibility. Once they hire, the current person will train for a month or so and then leave the new person to go it alone. But relocating is required, I'm sure.

But... it's worth asking!
