WMVY is quite cool. Based on Martha's Vineyard, they are an independent radio station that plays an eclectic mix not unlike RP. I have listened to them since my college days on Cape Cod! That was a bunch of years before the internets. Of course, Aflanigan, being the New England native that you are must have listened to them for awhile too, right?

i remember that very, very well from my week spent there in 2001. i loved it. never thought about streaming it. wow.

3-6 Mountain time Wednesdays: the Coffee Show on KGLT. Clever/funny/interesting mix of humor, rock, roll, and ska. The show is in its tenth or so year. Playlist here.

Only recently discovered them on visits to the Cape (their range doesn't extend very far beyond Eastern Mass and RI); when I was a college student at Worcester I listened to WBCN before they got wicked lame.  Remember Duane Glasscock, Charles Laquidera, Oedipus, Mark "Arenteau" Parenteau, the "Cosmic Muffin", Michegas and the Big Mattress?

Laquidera maintains some old sound files HERE

But for a change, Soma.fm, groovesalad being one of their better stations, is a god listen. I listen to that station sometimes when I do yoga, because it's kind of spacey.

Some of the other Soma-FM stations are good too.  I like their "Secret Agent", "Illinois St. Lounge" and "Lush" stations.  It is mostly laid-back "lounge" or ambient stuff there though, which I like, but it's not for everyone.

Well there's always Radio23.org  (Hint Hint)

Different DJ every two hours plays live from whatever country they are in. There are DJ's from the U.S, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK as well as others.

(I'm on every Monday Ten - Midnight UK Time)  :-)

Still waiting for SOME slots to be filled but most are now taken. Guranteed eclectic mix of music too.

Tune in some time and see what you think.

Check out www.soma.fm - their Groove Salad channel is particularly nice. You might also like www.pearadio.com.  iTunes has a wide selection of stations in their radio directory.  I think you'll find, however, that most online stations restrict themselves to a pretty narrow genre, rather than including a wide variety of music styles.

You the man!
I also recommend pearadio.com.

I like Radio Paradise a lot, but after a few weeks of steady listening I'm ready for something else for a change.  Anyone have any suggestions for similar stations?  (Wide mix of music, commercial-free, etc.)

Well, I've always found RP's Listener Review Channel stream to be a nice alternative to the main stream (pun fully intended)...

Wyoming Public Radio's Morning Music (9–12 mountain time weekdays) is good a lot of the time. Sometimes it sucks. Just like everything.
KEXP, especially John in the Morning. Free MP3s there too.
After a long hiatus in unlistenable racket, KCPR is starting to come back. AAC or QT only. edit: also pledge week.

j/k. Sorry I don't have any suggestions, but it looks like Our Fearless Leader has provided a few options.

I know, I know, I keep pimpin it!{#Devil_pimp} But there really is no more eclectic radio station regardless of output source! WUSC is basically Radio Paradise with every other genre created by humans and machines in the entire world sprinkled in! Including all world music, famous protest dissertations and speeches, crazy evangelical sermons, Hip Hop, Classical, Soundtrack, Old folk tunes since the beginning of musical recording, unsigned artist and more!{#Bananajam} Just click here, hit the webstream and your good: http://wusc.sc.edu/

You will love it for the same reason we all love Radio Paradise, why search out many stations dependent upon your mood, when you can have it all on one station?!{#Sunny}

Lots of good NPR stations still out there - terrestrial signals streamed over the innernets.  Most of it is classical, of course, with talk surging up the list.

Sometimes, classical is just what the doctor ordered for an RP intermezzo.

The classical channel at www.sky.fm is a good one. It's programmed for those of us who aren't classical snobs & don't mind some "greatest hits".

RadioIO recently fired most of their channel hosts, and the quality of their programming has gone way downhill.

I was wondering about that. I put them on in the background, and haven't been as impressed as I was a few years ago when I first tried them. It's mostly RP when it's not dmaxRadio, honestly.

Oh, and another vote for Groove Salad. I put it on when I have guests and want something not too intrusive.
