Thinking about this incident, I think he acted improperly and shot himself in the foot doing so. He should have notified his boss and let her make the call. Yes, his boss is the Attorney-General and the Republicans would have been really pissed off. But notification is a political issue, not a law enforcement one. It's called chain of command and he made a mistake in flaunting it.

Apparently this election is eating the lunch of reality TV shows.
Some people are saying that they have stopped following the news because the election rhetoric is so depressing yet election (media) ratings are exceptionally high.

He will have a new career somewhere else soon, regardless, imo. His July interjection of a political angle (unavoidable?) sealed it for him no matter who wins . It seems he acted to prevent an inevitable leak from the House Committee. In some sense this may be helpful to Clinton (vs. a leak). I think it should be re-stated to the point of emphasis that nothing in Comey's statement implies wrong-doing. re: Something solid? If HRC was worried she likely would have couched her request for immediate clarification and elaboration from Comey/FBI much differently...or not at all.

Also, Comey has violated an unwritten, but long honored, policy by the FBI to not make "election sensitive" announcements within sixty days of election day.
Australia follows 'caretaker conventions' before an election. I don't fully understand it but basically the government, departments, and all employees go into a mode where they continue to operate but keep neutral and don't get involved in the election process and don't make any unnecessary commitments that could screw the next government. You wouldn't have anyone holding hearings or making announcements that blur the line between their official position and their party electioneering. Exceptions to the protocols can be made, like before WWII they were relaxed to prepare for the war.

I agree. With more news this morning it is clear the statement would have been quickly leaked. In a sense Comey has, in this Friday afternoon news dump, helped Clinton from having this be worse. It should be remembered what Comey's statement actually said. It does not imply anything beyond the "possibility the discovered emails are relevant".

Like it matters, those who support her are going to support her if she campaigned from prison and those that hate her and thinks she drinks the blood of children every morning for energy are going to continue to do so. Bottom line is, nothing will be resolved before she is coronated, the trains will continue to run on time, wall street will continue to profit and our young men and women will continue to be deployed, killed, maimed and psychologically damaged for life in quagmires that have absolutely nothing to do with our safety. Also your health insurance premiums will continue to skyrocket inversely with your disposable income. Relax everything is going to be fine and those evil people that released the factual information that the FBI is reviewing more emails that should never have been on that server anyway will soon be forgotten I assure you. Have a fun 8 years cause it is going to be even more bitter and contentious than the last 8. Oh and have a great day!

Although from what I heard in the car on the radio news at the top of the hour just a short while ago, Assange is promising something that will get Hillary locked up for sure. Yeah right ... she is untouchable. With all the things that have come out so far and have been totally ignored by nearly everyone but Trump and his supporters, I can't think of anything she could do that would even get her arrested, let alone charged with. Hillary wins in a landslide. Take it to the bank ...
