Learned Optimism: How to Change Your Mind and Your Life, by Martin E. P. Seligman, Ph.D. (1990, Vintage Books)

http://www.reflectivehappiness.com

There are also several other titles by Seligman that deal with happiness and overcoming learned helplessness.  Someone recommended that I read this, and I was quite optimistic when I went out and got the book.

Now I am looking forward to actually reading it some day.

I know this is going to sound odd but I don't care. I don't need a pill to get high, but I would love a drug, herb, method etc that would make me feel more optimistic. Optimism breeds confidence, which breeds motion, which breeds action, which leads to things getting done. Is there anything out there??? Is it possible to create optimism? Do you have a way to generate optimism? Please share your knowledge.

Thank you RPeeps, you people are the greatest! There is a lot of wisdom in your replies. I'm starting to feel better already. I will spend more time with my kids, I will shake things up, I will get out of this rut, I will surround myself with optimism generators. But, I don't know about a press conference in my pajamas....or the Dodge...{#Think} {#Biggrin}

I create it when I realize that it feels so much better than the alternative. It's easier to revisit optimism when I remember how much bigger my world becomes when I operate within it....more doors and opportunities and other optimistic people seem to appear when I am in that space

I create it by maintaining a heart full of gratitude for every damn little thing in my life....

It also helps to have goals that I'm working toward....
