For me its' more about a certain level of standards that I'm comfortable with, which can be seen to be expectations.  I would never lower those basic standards for a lover, mate or even those I make friends with.  I think basic respect  for others is high on my list of standards (or expectations) for anyone I would choose to spend my time with.

I find that particular "expectation" too be based , very much, on reality and many years of lifetime experience.   Their plans do not have to match my plans, in fact sometimes their plans can add a bonus dimension to life, sort of a dove-tail affect.

Same with arranged marriages, they manage to make it work because they have the same goals.

I am no expert, this is just my observation in noticing that the women complain that they can't find anyone to marry, but they hardly even date because they don't want to go out with someone who is not their perfect ideal. If you want to get married and have children, you have to go out with a lot of guys and find one that wants the same things that you do.

And expectations will undo you every time. Have plans not expectations, because expectations are not based on reality.

Again, just my opinion.
