Her voice does have it's limitations, yes. There's not a lot of sustain there, and not much power - IIRC, she started out just playing the piano until someone talked her into singing. She may not have had a lot of vocal training.

I'm not in total agreement with Janis, after all, I have some of her recordings. But I do think that there are times when her intimate voice comes off as a bit weak. I like Tony Bennett too, but sometimes his phrases end too abruptly for my ear.
