After yesterday's conversation, the mom broke down and confided in my coworker. I'm told that the father (mom and dad are still together) has never held the boy. WTF.
Hoping and praying for them.

It's so important to emphasize to kids like this that the way they feel is just temporary, but suicide is so permanent. Why are children that young so desperate that they want to take their own life?

Last week the friend got corrected in class, not causing trouble, just didn't have the right answer... and later confided that he wanted to die. The son reported that to his mom (my co-worker) who *almost* made a phone call. Yesterday the boy reported that he has everything he needs. .22, ammo... so yes, calls have been made. So now we wait.
The fact that it got that bad for him, before he's even seen 10 or 11.....

So sad, but not new. When I was in college a dorm mate, who seemed anorexic and used to draw pictures that were a cross between Tim Burton and Edward Gorey, closed herself in a crawl space and took pills while her folks were on vacation.
