Apparently my mother is not declining fast enough so they are talking about taking her off hospice. i think much of it is due to taking her off many meds and switching to patch for pain management.I have mixed feeling on all that. She has no real quality of life.Dementia is probably not going to kill her, but the Diabetes/kidney failure likely will at some point. I am the only one who gives her chocolate for some reason, but then I am her favorite.

I saw that - I'm so very sorry for your loss. I have been trying to imagine just how different life will be when Mom is finally gone—-even though she's had a longer, fuller life than most people's parents (she'll be 94 in November)...and I will only know for sure when it happens. I will miss that whole era of brave people who danced to Big Band music and survived the Depression, a world war, their kids going to Vietnam, and everything else.

Thank you.

Mom had shown significant improvement since my Hawaiian sister has been there spending round-the-clock time with her. Since Hospice does a lot of care now and the facility is stepping up care (checks every 2 hours)....my sister feels okay to return home.

We all thought this was the end. Mom has a little more time left in her earthly journey, however. And so life goes on.....

If Mom sticks around and lingers in her ever-weakening condition, J and my other local siblings will form a plan to get her into a room that has way more care provided (at her assisted living). If she doesn't last much longer, it will be such a blessing that her loving daughter was tending to her needs in her final weeks/months.

And my 69 year-old sister is doing this with a bad back, arthritis in her knees, and only six months out from having taken care of her late husband like this for a few years.

I have tremendous love and respect for her.

Thanks, everyone

The nurse said she's actually improving today, walking to lunch with her walker again and smiling. Still confused and hard to talk/form words...but at least not actively dying. Not yet, anyway.

What a tough woman. I hope I'm that tough at 93.

We (my siblings and I) are hoping that she doesn't have to languish or enter any period of prolonged infirmity. The last time one of my sisters spent the night with her, she (sister) dreamt she was talking to my Dad...and when she awoke, Mom called out Dad's name in her sleep. As a believer in an afterlife, something is definitely significant about that (to me).

Just sending her waves of peace and love at this point.
