Cynaera wrote: Whaaaa???? Oh, damn. Another one leaves too soon... Well, it makes me love this song even more than I already did. That breathtaking sax, that scorching guitar solo, and the cool cruising beat with the injections of synth... This song got me through a stint of living by myself for the first time in a rented house. When I'd get scared, I'd put this album on, crank up "Baker Street," and sit on my back porch, watching the traffic and the sky. It always opened my mind to possibilities, even while it comforted me.
Goodbye, Mr. Rafferty. Thank you for the music you left behind - know that it's very precious to a lot of people.

Whoa. This is the last song comment she posted. Cynaera wrote:Etta's voice always brings me back to life, no matter what she sings. She will be very much missed. R. I. P., Ms. James, and thank you for the wonderful, magical legacy you've left to us all. Etta James — The Rock

She is remembered in a number of song comments as well. Earlier today Patty Griffin's 'Goodbye' was on, the acoustic version, and it almost made me cry right here in the office. The song comments tell the story, it's just heartbreaking. We've had a few deaths in our little family, and each one is a punch in the gut. At least we can remember them here, mourn their passings, and celebrate their lives.

From the Comments page:
" What?!! I don't understand what you mean. Has something happened to dear Cynaera? Can anyone please tell me? I cherish that woman's spirit.
Ok, I'm sorry, folks. Been just popping in and out lately, not really reading comments very much. I did suspect, from certain cryptic references here & there. Just found the Forum page. Oh, dear. I'm just blubbering uncontrollably now. Didn't even know the lady, but, over the past few years I've been listening I'd come to respect & admire her for just about everything she pulled out of her hat, comment-wise. My sympathy and condolences go to her family and those close to her. May she be forever more in radio paradise.
Thanks to calypsus_1 for the tribute comment. John

Cynaera (In a hammock under my own vine and fig tree.)
Jimmy Cliff — Many Rivers to Cross
...This song gets a 10. How many of us have looked at our lives and seen nothing but mountains beyond mountains, and many rivers? My uncle had a 600-acre farm in Washington - he grew potatoes, corn, and sugar-beets, and his son had a couple-hundred head of Black Angus cattle. I got to work on that farm when I was young, and it was HARD WORK. Milking cows, feeding chickens, mucking out the pig pens and the stalls, and helping to get the irrigation system working. I only have sketchy memories of it all, but I know it wasn't easy. I LOVED it.I wish I'd known about this Jimmy Cliff song back then - I'd probably have been singing it, too...

Only clued in on this tonight. Sad to hear - especially for someone so young and who made me smile with her positivity in her comments. As you can tell I don't participate in the forums much, just in song comments..
My father passed away from the same thing - RIP to them both.
Anyone know where in UT she was from? I spend a lot of time in Sandy/Little Cottonwood Canyon, and I wonder if I might have run into her at some point. No matter, just... :(

It's like there's no respects left to be offered for Melissa - as if her contributions here were less valuable than Cynaera's.
But that's just me. Mr. Overly Sensitive. It's just more recent. And Cynaera made a lot of song comments. You make a fair point, but they're not really comparable. We could bump The Buffoonery in Melissa's honor though.

From "Year of the Cat"
I love Al Stewart. Deep lyrics, and that almost-effeminate voice (I probably spelled it incorrectly, but it's late Saturday night! Cut me a break, okay?) I know I posted this story elsewhere, but it fits here, too... I was living at home, and one day, I had the radio turned up loud while I was washing dishes. Mom came into the kitchen about the time Al Stewart's "Time Passages' was playing, and she asked imperiously, "What's he saying? Tying sausages?" And she walked away, muttering, while I tried my very best to smother my laughter in my bent arm... To this day, I can't listen to that song without remembering Mom with a smile and a tear...
Al Stewart will always hold a special place in my heart.

he means copy and pasting the comments with all the html boxes and stuff around it is borking the threads. just copy the text and all will be fine. edit: sorry it's not the boxes and stuff that caused it. it was someone's post that used a very long underline. it's now on page 2
