Donald Trump’s continued effort to overturn the result of the election — an effort buttressed by the support of many Republicans in Congress, it should be noted — is nothing short of an attempt at a bloodless coup.

The only way Trump could achieve his aim of denying Joe Biden his rightfully earned victory would be if some people or entities — state legislatures, judges or the Supreme Court — were to agree to throw out millions of legally cast and appropriate votes. (It is also worth noting that many of the jurisdictions being disputed are heavily Black.) (...)

Trump has realized that trying to steal the presidency is more lucrative than actually being president, so he won’t stop. We are witnessing one of the greatest grifts in the history of the presidency.

The presidency gave Trump something he always craved but never possessed: constant attention and real, legitimate power. And, once tasted, power is craved forever.

Trump has never believed in American democracy
. He was never a student of history. He was never really a patriot.

When he foreshadowed his current behavior in 2016 by refusing to say that he would accept the results of that election as legitimate if he didn’t win, we knew. When he cozied up to the world’s dictators and spurned our allies, we knew. When he winked at hate groups by refusing to immediately and fulsomely condemn them, we knew.

Trump wants to operate a dictatorship behind a veil of democracy. He wants to wield power without winning it legitimately. He wants to manipulate his mob and prioritize it above the masses who oppose him.

Today is going to be a bad, bad, very bad day for those who believe Biden actually won the election.

News is breaking all over the place, though maybe not on the sources many choose to follow.

Also, funny how CNN et all are now actually covering the Hunter Biden scandal, innit?

And in Vermont, the state’s electors gathered for a basic rite of democracy normally invisible to the public. But this year, because of Mr. Trump’s ongoing campaign to subvert the election, the session was carried live by national news outlets. The states three electors, dressed casually, gathered in an empty, ornate statehouse chamber and signed their names to votes for Mr. Biden on six certificates.

One thing that scared me was that about a year ago (probably a little more) I think Mark Cuban was toying with the idea of trying to run for president. IMO Mark Cuban has nearly the same credentials as Trump in terms of his background being applicable to that of the Presidency... which is to say next to none. While I don't think a US admin under Cuban would be as bad as Trump (hard to imagine that it would be), I don't see that as being successful.  One could say that he's a younger version of Trump without a lot of the "baggage".  I believe he's registered as an Independent but would likely have to affiliate himself with Repubs or Dems for a serious run.

In short, I hope that future candidates with similar backgrounds to Trump don't get credibility bestowed on them (as it seems happened 4 years ago) simply because of their perceived business acumen or willingness to buck the system as we have now witnessed what a disastrous scenario that concoction has delivered. I guess much of this will depend on what Biden does in these next four years. If he sh*ts the bed... well a "reality show prez"might again be around the corner.

Thanks for correcting my typo ... {#Heartkiss}

Good a time as any for a thread jack ... and it might interest rgio even.

All roads lead to Youngstown was one of the first things I heard when I moved to this area in 1971, with a brief stop in Philly before arriving here.  A wide eyed 18 year old who grew up on the beaches of SoCal.  By age 21, I was a card carrying Teamster working in Mafia controlled businesses.  We had some things to deal with in our shop immediately after Danny Greene was blown up.  A bomb was found in the building, which I did see.  Of course it was not reported to the police or anyone else.  Soon afterwards the owners had remote car starters.  For shits and giggles, they would stand in the window and start their cars as we would walk by them in the parking area on the way to our cars.  There are many stories I can tell that few would be interested in, but I do know this world on a first hand basis.  I am not a babe in these woods.

Some interesting reading on this little world ...

Crimetown USA
The city that fell in love with the mob.

Jim Traficant died a strange death.

and then there is this ...

Cleveland crime family

Al Capone had a compound here with escape tunnels and what not.  Down the same road that Rockefeller's mansion was on, btw.  He built a race track for cars here that is now used for trotters and ironically has a casino now, too.  Elliot Ness is from Cleveland.

Tim Ryan (D) from Youngstown is my Congressman.  I live in a sea of blue.  Jordan faced plenty of scrutiny here in Ohio on this.  Evidently his constituents have made their decision.  Those are the ones you should be asking.

Yup, I have often asked the same question myself and a few (not a lot) of Canadians have also wondered out loud, why 45 has not been shot dead yet.   A few, in my experience, have suggested that he should be shot.

From my perspective, it is a recurring nightmare, because Trump in life has already done so much damage to the USA; in death I fear he becomes a super popular martyr and his movement continues to hurt US interests for years, if not decades to come.  In this nightmare scenario, the USA does its best to drag down and hurt other rich western democracies, similar to what Trump has been doing for the past 4 years.

Jim Jordan.   Did not know who he was until the impeachment proceedings.  After a few minutes of watching JJ in action, I almost felt like taking a shower.....  On the bright side, I no longer feel so icky about some of our more sleazy conservative politicians.  Sleaze.  It is all relative.
