'Sync' syncs playback (more or less, such stuff isn't ever exact) to either the web stream or another player on your network (or logged in elsewhere via your RP account).
'Track' does the same thing, but without playing any audio (as you figgered out)
Having 2 RP windows/tabs open can cause weird unpredictable behavior. The new site is really oriented towards working in a single tab.
I usually hate HATEthem but could you implement something that, when the tab is playing music and I try to surf off to parts unknown, it pops up and says "that will kill your music, idiot."? Because I close the RP tab about 8 times a day. I'm still used to the popup player.
The "start listening" button issue was probably related to how the site was loading when I first posted the link. I fixed that this afternoon, so I'll bet that doesn't happen again.
We'll see about a bolder bold. Though that one sure pops nicely on my phone screen.
So to clarify:
I don't see any popup/popout option, so I have a window open with RP, scaled down to just show the controls, and off in the corner like where I used to have the popup. The beta site, if I had a popup or another window going, I couldn't start a new stream. With my current configuration, I can have two RP windows open and playing simultaneously but of course slightly out of syncinkinkink echoechoecho
Edit: I tried the sync/track options and "track" stopped one player, which is fine. "Sync" didn't seem to accomplish anything. I guess I need an owner's manual.
Edit2: Okay, "Sync—Track" where "Track" means it just tracks what's playing, in case I have the music coming from some other room but I want to see what's what. Got it.
Another user is asking what the sync option does. I thought I'd figured it out but I guess not.
Am I right about "Track"?

I like how I can go to the song info, noodle around for a while, and when I click the logo/home, it takes me right back here or wherever I was when I went to look at the song.
When I'm looking at the song, and decide to check out a song that's earlier in the playlist, when I hover over a song, it "lights up," but if I click in the gray box, it doesn't load that song info (screenshot of what I mean is here)... have to click the album art or song title, etc. Which is fine and makes sense except for that "lighting up" bit when the mouse is near... makes me think I don't have to expend the effort to move the mouse 1/2" more to the left. Such a burden.

For non-phone screen widths, can the artist page and other your-rating vs community-rating list pages set the numbers side by side, so that they fall in two columns? That was a thing I really liked about the other Beta site.
Try the Sync button. If you're playing RP via Alexa or our app or using the web stream (like via a hardware player, TuneIn, etc) you can click Sync & then select an option to track.
Track mode updates the display to match what's playing on the selected player. The web stream is always an option — and anything else on your local network or logged into your RP account should show up on the list as well.
Oh, I see. I've been navigating through song pages via https://new.radioparadise.com/music/play-history/web , not https://new.radioparadise.com/player/info/44389. Had to poke around a bit to find this, since there's no Sync button on the play-history page. I was a bit confused at first. ;-)
FWIW I'm finding that, when I use "Track" for Alexa, nothing quite syncs up right. As I write this, Elton John's "Madman Across the Water" is playing; Track for Alexa takes me to John Fogerty's "River is Waiting". I asked Alexa what's playing and she said it was Collective Soul "When the Water Falls".
This page also mostly addresses my issue with selecting "Newest" and navigation too. ("Mostly" because, when doing things like looking at my song comments, going back to a previous page doesn't necessarily take me to exactly where I was.)
Very nice stuff! I feel like I've barely discovered any of RP's new features.
Having been away from RP for a little while, I came back and was simply blown away! The new site & web player are just awesome. Looks like you've created a hybrid combining an Internet radio channel & an on-demand music streaming service. Doing that you've really succeeded in bringing the best of both worlds.
This service & your efforts are certainly worth all the support one can come up with. Thank you so much & keep up the good work
I really like the new customised streams. Something like this has been on my wish list for some time. The tailored streams retain the discovery orientated experience of RP without going too much down the Pandora/Spotify hyper-customised 'echo chamber' route. Well done B&R.
Second this. It's like having a "Match Bill's mood to mine, please" selector.
RANT! While in song comments, it automagically rudely switches to the next song. WTH!? I wasn't finished reading that!
That's a tricky one. If you're looking at a song played earlier (ie selected from the history in the left column) it won't do that — but if you're looking at the current song it will.
We're open to suggestions on this. I know it's annoying - but all if the solutions we've considered would quite likely interfere with the info refreshing when you want it to (which is probably most of the time).
Can you make it so that, if someone clicks or scrolls the comment pane, then it doesn't refresh? Maybe jump to current if it loses focus or have a big current track button.

It's even worse when I'm listening via my Amazon device, which is often a song or so behind the live stream. The "Now Playing" link is never what's playing for me. Manual navigation would be fine, except that there are still neither "last song" nor "previous song" links, so I have to back out to the web stream playlist, then click on whatever I'm now hearing.
Not to mention that I'm constantly clicking "newest"; maybe it's just me, but I'm not necessarily interested in what's the most popular in any particular page. I wish my last selection was remembered.
I like the new site a lot; those are just my current WIBNIs.
