I've been lied to, because I know the person thought my feelings would be safer that way. However, I'd rather know the absolute truth, deal with it and the feelings, and have more respect for the person for having the courage to be that brutally honest.

It takes a LOT of courage to tell the truth. (And also to not engage in lies of omission) Courage I wish more people had. Just DEAL with how people are going to react to the truth, when you tell it. It won't kill you.

The only lies I've told recently are white lies to my mom, that we siblings feel are necessary to keep some of her dementia-related behavior from going all Rainman. I feel those are harmless.
