Jeff took this picture last night when we were in the France section of Epcot's World Showcase. It's been a while since I've been there so I'm not sure if the Eiffel Tower is always lit up like that but either way, I think this came out really nice.
It's usually just lighted in one color, white mostly. Every hour it kind of sparkles. Right now, the real Tower is lighted in the tricolor of their flag.

I was just responding to a totally unprovoked attack from someone I don't know anything about. He doesn't even have his location filled out so have no idea where he is from. What gets me is you think its ok for him to attack me but not ok for me to respond. WTF indeed!
What gets me. Dave, is you viewed this as an attack...A sense of humor is a great thing to have in life...Seriously.

What gets me is you think its ok for him to attack me but not ok for me to respond. WTF indeed! I didn't post that thing on France to look for a troll response. I stumbled across it and even if only some of it was true I was sad to see that happening there. And I found other articles that backed at least some of it up. I used to go to France when I worked for Motorola to train people in the Toulouse plant in the late 70's and 80's. I really liked it there and one of the guys I met there was into old cars like me and I ended up shipping him my '59 Peugeot which he completely restored and send me pics of his process of doing it.
First of all i am not even a religious person and I hate Republicans as much as I hate Democrats. Different sides of the same corrupt coin. There are many other articles about people leaving France without the religious twist and I posted one them also. But because I posted a CBN video all of a sudden that makes me a right wing Christian nut. Fuck you asshole!
Sorry Dave.
As usual around here, the messenger is more looked at than the message.

If you'd started with the article from The Independent, you probably would have been taken more seriously.
The thing about France is that its citizens love their hard-won entitlements. Even if they cause budget deficits. The people who are leaving are the super-wealthy (and it's really hard to get super-wealthy in France) and those who want to start companies, but are stymied by French labor laws (although those have been softened in recent years in order to encourage entrepreneurship). There's also a culture of fear there, which I am not sure how to explain without writing a treatise.

Now, Richard, why would you want to go clouding the issue with facts? I don't think Dave will be able to take that. I mean, he seems to consider Pat Robertson to be a reliable source of information.

It's hardly surprising that the (religious) far-right chooses to frame it in terms of taxes or the evil scourge of socialism, however, as usual there's more nuance (left to be discovered) to their stories. It's a global phenomenon taking place everywhere.

PS: Some are rich and well-educated (thus with ample opportunities) like those French, but most movers, in general, are not.
Most of these well-off French are reported to go to Switzerland, the UK and Germany. While Switzerland is a known tax haven (see various celebrities moving there), the latter two are definitely not.
I have seen battlefields in Picardie; the landscape will never be the same there. But I had NO idea that these zones existed, maybe because I lived on the opposite side of the country.
