have you read The Magus, bri? because it is soooooo up your alley. my all-time favourite book. close seconds are The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera and The Secret History by Donna Tartt.

Lily, Have you read Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafim?  I highly recommend it to all.  I loved The Magus too, btw.

Well, the long-awaited A Dance with Dragons is out now. I've been waiting for it since 2005, and now that it's in the stores I can't afford it because of that pesky "no job" thing.

On the plus side, I have a hold on it at the library. So once the 89 people ahead of me on the list are done with it, I get my chance!

The Mask of Sanity by Hervey Cleckley is a brilliant book about psychopaths...it is quite illuminating on the subject...

"The Chronicles of Amber" by Roger Zelazny. Classic fantasy/adventure. 10 books or one very big book. Just a great story I've read twice.

A dear friend of mine, and a wonderful writer, has put out his latest book, In the Fall They Come Back for Kindle and other devices. It's only $8.99. I'm going to get it and use the option to view it on my PC, since I don't have a Kindle. I hope some of you will consider buying his book, too.

For anyone that may be interested Diane Rehm is having an hour long readers roundtable on The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo, tomorrow (Wed 7/21).

You can listen via your local NPR station if they carry it (check for times) or by going HERE and listening to the live stream which will be at 11:00 AM EST tomorrow, 7/21.

I listen to her show almost everyday and it is very insightful. I always enjoy her occasional Reader Roundtables and this should be a good one.

I am currently reading "The Top of the Hill" by Irwin Shaw, who also wrote great books like "Rich Man, Poor Man" and "The Young Lions" I am also a heavy Kurt Vonnegut fan("Slaughterhouse Five & "Cat's Cradle.") I also like Martin Amis. "London Fields" is highly recommended.

You might also make use of the search box to discover if there is already a thread pertaining to a given topic.

In this case, "Books" would not have yielded "What are you reading now?" but searching "Read" or "Reading" certainly would have.

I know it would be nice to have a definite thread list posted somewhere that's convenient to access............
