Most net-labels offer a player, and a lot of them use archive.org for storage, which has a player too. You can always try the smaller mp3 download first, instead of the big flac. This one looks like it has some "out there" stuff as well, but I usually download it anyway. Can't hurt with that price. Another tip from FMA (Free Music Archive) which regularly features net-labels. Including this one recently. I got a loooot of stuff in the library from net-labels.

Lots of bands I've never heard of (OK almost entirely bands I've never heard of) but enjoying the surprises. Thanks for the pointer! If you're looking for something curated by hipsters to filter the list a skosh try this: The NPR Austin 100. There's a lot of chaff amongst the wheat in the unfiltered list. The original zip file with all the songs for the NPR offering, which they remove after a while from the page, can be found here.

On a recent episode of WFMU's Sophisticated Boom Boom, Hollie Cook brought her distinctive style of 'tropical pop' to the airwaves! Hollie Cook was part of the last lineup of The Slits, a legendary all-female punk/reggae group from the UK. With heavy dub-reggae influences and strong melodic vocals that accent the music rather than dominate it, this is a live session that you don't want to miss! Listen below.
