"Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else."

"Taxes must, in the end, fall upon the consumer."

Frederic Bastiat

Extremes? There never HAS been a successful Libertarian run government in history. Iceland tried it but lets say that ended VERY badly last year!

Libertarians are against taxes and governement regulation of any kind. Hence you have your Libertarian paradise of Haiti with no taxes and NO BUILDING CODES AT ALL. How'd THAT work out?

And from the Libertaarian Ludwig Von Mises Institute 2006. :

Stateless in Somalia, and Loving It

Mises Daily: Tuesday, February 21, 2006 by Yumi Kim

fuh, if you're in the USA, it was founded on principles that Libertarians embrace, peace and prosperity, limited government, states rights, and most importantly, individual rights.

Iceland? I haven't really got the particulars on Iceland, however, I know that they did get burned by Corporate raiders on Wall Street. (and they had debt, and a fiat currency, these aren't signs of a Libertarian government, in fact fiat currency is 180 degrees from it, a huge no-no) One thing, I did see here was interesting.

You say Libertarians are against taxes and government of any kind (and then proceed to extrapolate that Haiti had no building codes, so they must be Libertarian {#Rolleyes} )

While your mis-informed attempts to paint Libertarians as unorganized barbarians is pretty sad, let's actually look at the LP website and see what you're missing.

"Principled; Consistent

The Libertarian way is a logically consistent approach to politics based on the moral principle of self-ownership. Each individual has the right to control his or her own body, action, speech, and property. Government's only role is to help individuals defend themselves from force and fraud."

"As Libertarians, we seek a world of liberty; a world in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit of others.

We believe that respect for individual rights is the essential precondition for a free and prosperous world, that force and fraud must be banished from human relationships, and that only through freedom can peace and prosperity be realized.

Consequently, we defend each person's right to engage in any activity that is peaceful and honest, and welcome the diversity that freedom brings. The world we seek to build is one where individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, without interference from government or any authoritarian power."

1.5 Crime and Justice

Government exists to protect the rights of every individual including life, liberty and property. Criminal laws should be limited to violation of the rights of others through force or fraud, or deliberate actions that place others involuntarily at significant risk of harm. Individuals retain the right to voluntarily assume risk of harm to themselves. We support restitution of the victim to the fullest degree possible at the expense of the criminal or the negligent wrongdoer. We oppose reduction of constitutional safeguards of the rights of the criminally accused. The rights of due process, a speedy trial, legal counsel, trial by jury, and the legal presumption of innocence until proven guilty, must not be denied. We assert the common-law right of juries to judge not only the facts but also the justice of the law.

1.6 Self-Defense

The only legitimate use of force is in defense of individual rights - life, liberty, and justly acquired property - against aggression. This right inheres in the individual, who may agree to be aided by any other individual or group. We affirm the right to keep and bear arms, and oppose the prosecution of individuals for exercising their rights of self-defense. We oppose all laws at any level of government requiring registration of, or restricting, the ownership, manufacture, or transfer or sale of firearms or ammunition.

2.0 Economic Liberty

A free and competitive market allocates resources in the most efficient manner. Each person has the right to offer goods and services to others on the free market. The only proper role of government in the economic realm is to protect property rights, adjudicate disputes, and provide a legal framework in which voluntary trade is protected. All efforts by government to redistribute wealth, or to control or manage trade, are improper in a free society.

We could go on and on.

And now you think because Yumi Kim posts an opinion/view on an Austrian Economic website, referring to to Somalia as stateless, it makes it a Libertarian government?

From what I read on Somalia, they're no where near a Libertarian form of government. It's more like cultural and religious conflict/struggle for control.

Regards

By the way, I don't know how "good" that pic will look to you after you finally realize that you are cheering on the armed RED guy, as in Red States or Republicans!  {#Roflol}  Hurray for Socialism!

Transparency. Web posted legislation sufficent in time for The People to read up on them. Ethics. Fiscal responsibility. Just to name a few 'lies'. And those come from the folks currently wielding all the levers of power. If Republicans gain control somewhere along the way, I expect a continuation of the lies that both Parties employ.
What happened between Tiger and his wife, what continues to take place between them, is their business. Unfortunately for them, we live in a tabloid driven news world. I really don't need to know what and when or with whom when it comes to what should be a private family manner. That Gov. Pawlenty continues with an account Tiger denies, does not speak well of Gov. Pawlenty. He should either prove the assertion or drop it.

The election of Scott Brown to Ted Kennedy's vacant senate seat wasn't the only bad news that week. Going virtually unnoticed was the announcement two days later that Air America, the progressive radio network, had filed for bankruptcy. Both of these unfortunate occurrences can be traced to the same cause; a surprisingly stubborn Republican Right Wing which refuses to roll over and die (as it should.) Massive propaganda and disinformation on the part of the corporate owned/controlled media slander machine contributed heavily to these progressive losses. In the case of Air America, it was just a matter of time. Right wing radio, flush with corporatate $$$, always had the advantage, whereas Air America had to continuously struggle just to show a profit.
During its six years in existence, Air America was a blast of fresh air. It provided radio listeners with a much needed alternative to the blatherings of Flush Scumbag, Sean Hilarity, and Portland's very own right wing-nut Lars Larson, who have dominated this medium for over two decades. And it gave career starts to the likes of Thom Hartmann, Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz, and the legendary Mike Malloy (he was so radical that he eventually got the boot from Air America!) Air America's tragic demise narrows the spectrum of political opinion to where it was previous to it's launching, but it is to the network's credit that so many alumni have gone on to success in other media. (It was his exposure on Air America which no doubt helped Saturday Night Live alumnus Al Franken get elected to the Senate in 2008.)
AIr America will be sorely missed.

Nonsense. Where do you hatch such notions? Air America failed because lacking a sufficient audience, they could not garner ad dollars, the life blood of broadcasting. It was only a couple years ago that George Soros propped up a then failing Air America with a significant 'donation'. Air America failed and was failing because they lacked a sufficent audience for their left of center programming. Like it or not, this country is, if anything, right of center. You can't blame Republicans for Air America's demise. Air America had a limited appeal and advertisers won't spend dollars if the demographics are wrong. For Air America, their message and their demographics were wrong. That's how it is in the broadcasting biz: no audience or one too small for the liking of ad dollars and you're facing termination.

Boos as Paul wins CPAC straw poll
Rep. Ron Paul, the libertarian-leaning Texas Republican who ran a quixotic bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, was the top vote-getter in this year's Conservative Political Action Conference’s straw poll, capturing 33 percent of those who participated in the contest.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who had won the CPAC straw poll for three consecutive years, was the only other candidate to break double digits, taking 22 percent of the vote. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin won seven percent and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty six percent. Pawlenty attended the conference; Palin did not.

Paul’s victory renders a straw poll that was already lightly-contested among the likely 2012 GOP hopefuls all but irrelevant as the 74-year-old Texan is unlikely to be a serious contender for his party’s nomination.

As the results were displayed on twin large screens in the ballroom – and even before Republican pollster Tony Fabrizio could announce who won – a cascade of boos came down from a crowd that views Paul and his fervent supporters as an irritant.

CPAC organizers were plainly embarrassed by the results, which could have the effect of reducing the perceived impact of a contest that was once thought to offer a window into which White House hopefuls were favored by movement conservatives.

A spokesman for the conference rushed over to reporters following the announcement to make sure they had heard the unmistakable boos when Paul was disclosed as the winner.

2,935 votes were cast in the straw poll – far fewer than the approximately 10,000 people who attended the conference.

Rep, Mike Pence, an Indiana Republican who heads the House GOP conference, took five percent of the vote. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee each won four percent.
