Carnitas!

A friend gave us a bunch of beef from her freezer after their family situation changed but the local butcher was unaware but brought them their usual 1/4 beef. In the bundle was a couple of pounds of cube steak. I know you can do other things with that but when life hands you the main ingredient to chicken-fried steak, I think that's a sign that you need to eat chicken-fried steak. And mashed potatoes and gravy of course. And apple pie with ice cream because America.

A spicy variation on my “Squasta” recipe. With Rotel tomatoes and boxed black beans and rice. And a cold beer. Yum!

We have several very pricey sushi places here in town; at least one of which is a chain, I believe. They get a lot of money for their pretense and "atmosphere". Then there's the little place we go - a mom & pop shop. Old, well-worn, unassuming building. Best damn sushi in town for much less moolah.

We have a couple of other spots we hit regularly. This place had a saki that he wanted us to sample (it was really good).  Mostly it was the cool tips  like "try this with this...", and some fairly exotic things that I wouldn't have know to try. He knew way more nuance that I have for chatting up the chef and getting some really nice cuts of fish too.  Also 400 etiquette tips that I've been screwing up... but was forgiven for.  Good company, and I look forward to the other spot next time.

Grilled chicken and fresh beets (marinated in balsamic vinegar, rosemary, garlic and Herbes de Provence, and grilled in foil) and a nice green salad. And a glass of rosé bien sûr. {#Cheers}
