We just moved to an ISP that offered 120 Mbps down 7 Mbps up.    The former service was an ASDL 15 Mbps down and less than 1 Mbps up.

Now that we have some bandwidth to spare, I was thinking of getting a VPN service for security and privacy.   Thoughts?

On the HTPC system, all of a sudden , qbittorrent seemed to be eliminating internet access except for torrents and google searches.   This would happen once qbittorrent was loaded.  There was no requirement to start downloading.   So I uninstalled qbittorent, erased all the files, and deleted all the registry entries.  Tedious.  (Coincidentally I removed a number of Win32 malware files but that did not resolve the problem.)

Then I re-installed the most recent stable 64bit version of qbittorrent.   Problem solved.

Did the same for VLC player and Irfan View a while back.

Less availability of software.   Apple's policy of heavily taxing app providers.

Windows 10 is fixable to some extent if you don't mind getting into it.  Same with Android.

Linux and possibly other UNIX-based operating systems are the best if the machinery is older but something else to learn and once again, not as always as much software availability as Windows but fairly decent if you are doing technical stuff.

I have since trashed the wordpress and just put up a placeholder, until the other site is ready.

The problem is, all of the printed URLs and on google etc. as well as the diocesan site itself, all point to the old domain. I would like to have it so that if someone goes to the powellepiscopal.com page, the diowy.org subdomain is what loads.

I'm having trouble explaining this to Google. I don't want to embed the site, or redirect away... I would like for people to be on powellepiscopal.com for their entire visit. But if they click on a link outside of the subdomain, they go there, out from under the powellepiscopal.com URL.

Doable? If I have to involve the diowy.org monkeys, I will, but it seems like I ought to be able to just load something in the header of the index page that says "put everything at blahblah.blah.org here."

Make powellepiscopal.com a domain alias of stjohnspowell.diowy.org?

PS: You might need some URL Rewriting as well...

I'm thinking I'm too lazy and will just redirect it.

Make sure it's a permanent redirect (308).

or you can get some of this stuff which we use on poly lens edges to chemically polish the edges and make them clear.  Ain't cheap, but if you have something really rare or OOP, it may be worth it.  Or this which I just found.  Would be much easier to use.  Poly Edge Glaze Pen  still not cheap, but should do the trick.

They make little polishing machines for $20-30 that actually work pretty well. I think they all use the same rubbing compound as the headlight stuff.

I have PlasticX polish that's made specifically for plastics. I'll try it on the worst ones. I thought dP went out and found the correct missing bits, but I think it just compares your disc with the others. Works pretty well, regardless.

I have used both.  My final choice was dBPowerAmp, hands down.  It does everything you could ever want.  When you get the paid version, it will allow you to rip in multiple formats at the same time.  You can do wav, flac and mp3 if you might want to, all in the same one time rip.  It will also will allow you to make batch format conversions.   Metadata tools are excellent and I like the rip verification process as well.  FWIW, I think that the rips sounded better than Exact, too.  It will analyze your optical drive and make whatever adjustments needed to compensate for known accuracy issues as well.  I think Exact does that, too, but I forget.  I ripped over a thousand CD's with dB and it was fast and easy.  Worth the money.

Oh, and I see you are testing dB right now.  It was awhile ago when I ran the full trial version, but it kept functioning after the thirty days was up, as long as I did not close out the program window, just sayin' ...  {#Whistle}

Okay, next question topic: ripping CDs. Exact Audio (free but requires setup) or dBPowerAmp (costs $40 but easier interface). Something else? Is the dvd drive in my 'puter sufficient to extract every bit?

Freerip
. Be careful installing so you don't wind up with extra software you'll need to uninstall later, but it works a treat and does everything I need.

Configuring the output filenames is awkward but once you set it up it's painless. Supports FLAC, Vorbis, mp3, and wma and lets you convert between them. Good metadata handling.

I used to use EAC but find Freerip easier to use.
