Antigone wrote:My mother loved April Fool's Day. She used to wake me and my brother up on that morning with some kind of prank. I remember the morning she came into my bedroom (on the front of the house, facing the vacant lot across the street) and exclaimed, "AN AIRPLANE LANDED ACROSS THE STREET!" I scrambled to my knees on the bed, pushed aside the curtains to look out the window, and ... nothing. NPR had a good one this morning. Frank Deford, the Wednesday morning sports guy: What began as one man's frustration is slowly turning into a more serious movement that merits our serious attention.Several months ago, Adam Winter of Saginaw, Mich., grew more and more angry. He is a man who has two loves — pro football and animals — and as the Detroit Lions continued to lose games, Winter became increasingly upset that the magnificent lion should be associated with such a woebegone franchise. When Detroit — that is, the Lions — finished this past season without a victory, Winter prevailed on his state senator to introduce a bill in the Michigan Legislature that would ban the Detroit franchise from exploiting the nickname of the lion. The rationale: It's unfair to insult a proud beast that is unable to defend its own good name. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=102566041

Unfortunate.
XRT was such a great station . . . back in the day, it was completely programmed by the DJs — I remember when for part of the day it was a Spanish-speaking station. There aslo used to be a good station out Elgin way known, I think, as the Jackal.
i miss the old, pre-corporate XRT...i started listening to them in 1978 when WDAI went all disco! i missed the spanish by about 5 years. i vaguely remember the Jackal. my brother was a dj back in the day, he'd remember for sure!

bleh..
no fake commercials. no pretend news. no false format change. very bland.......
my favorite was "april fool fest" that was supposed to be like chicagofest...my ex husband fell for it hook, line, and sinker....even asked me if i wanted to go downtown to check it out.
i had to say to him..."what day is it?" and wait for the light to dawn....doy.

but today....nothing.
business as usual. i am EXTREMELY disappointed!!!
