Mine too brother. I'm here to tell you my ass was full of ice, man!
I recall cross-country skiing long ago wearing a brand new pair of jeans, not pre-washed but loaded with lots of fresh blue dye. I was not very good and it was a challenging trail through the woods. I left a few blue streaks in the snow on some of the steeper drops.
It was a story on NPR, so I deem it valid. Funny - I grew up skiing in jeans. I was probably 18 when I got my first pair of ski pants.
I definitely saw some hairy people in short-shorts.
Back in the olden days, everyone wore jeans that had been sprayed with Scotch-Gard ($$) or washed with a lot of fabric softener and not rinsed (¢¢) so that they were waxy. At some point I got some wind pants to go over them, but they were slick nylon and if you fell, you were not going to stop sliding, ever. I was on the gondola reminiscing about the olden times with another guy about how the old 70s bell bottoms would fit over your boots so that was good but they'd get wet and freeze and by the end of the day you'd have about 3 pounds of solid ice clanging on your boots as you walked. The 20 year olds in the gondola just stared blankly at each other and couldn't wait to get away. But before they made their escape I talked about getting gaiters and wool WW1(?) knickers at the army surplus store and those were cool. I wish I still had them, to tell the truth.
I decided to move this post here so I can find it later...
JustineFW and I went down to Jackson Hole for their silly "Set the World Record for Skiers in Jeans" event. Over 3000 people turned up in denim; the previous record was apparently about 120 or something. It was a beautiful dayâhighlighted by this Sun Dog! That thing lasted for over an hour; we could see it from the valley floor as a sort of rainbow around the sun, but from the top of the lift we got the full circle, both dogs, and rays coming off all 3. Everyone getting off the top of the lift just started reaching for their phones... these are not camera/phone/photoshop things, you can actually see them just like this. By the time we got back up for our second run of the day, it was over.
That is extremely cool. And now the story I heard about some one in a denim speedo seems a little more likely... and unfortunate.

Boo Boo Bear
I heard a piece about this record setting event on NPR this afternoon and, no joke, thought of you and JFW!

And they're all pulled outta someone's nethers. I'm not going to the mat and saying this is the best solution ever, but it makes for some pretty dramatic signage, easy to read from a distance, and feels right when I see the posters in a shop window...
Maybe you could add a buffalo sending a carrot ass-over-teakettle

I'm a total amateur at this kind of stuff. I've never taken a course in graphic design. But as a schlub who gets bombarded with ads and come-ons all the time, I say this works pretty damned well. It makes me wanna go to the farmers' market.
Maybe he's an interior designer, not a graphic designer - but that being said, he still got the proportions wrong: https://www.thespruce.com/time...
I think you're right about such a "rule" applying to interior design (and his proportions were wrong as you pointed out). I've never heard of any arbitrary "color proportion rule" in graphic design, and I've been in that field for over 40 years. Oh, and that design looks great, Scott.

I think it looks great - visibility means more people see it, and more people who see it might actually read it, and more who read it might actually attend, etc.
