Lo siento che.  Maybe in hindsight..... for the benefit of others in a similar situation ..... family therapy sessions would have been more productive.

Here's the spontaneous thought that came into my head reading this.   You might have been better off going to a trusted priest, minister, pastor, rabbi or similar.     These folks still care deeply about family.

An adult (my kid) has to agree to any of that, and wouldn’t. Again, I blame the therapist for not moving things in that direction.
But thanks for your concern.

You never know what you are going to get with kids. Good friends had years of problems with their third kid, who, touch wood, has suddenly come right. Tough road though.

Very sorry to hear you are going through this.  Sounds as though you have been for years.  I know similar stories, even within my own extended family.  It's not easy and as a parent, I can't imagine the uneasiness of not knowing where your child is at any given moment.  My sincere thoughts and good vibes are sent to you and I hope you find some inner peace knowing you've done all you can.  Remember, we can't choose our kids any more than we can choose our parents.   Unconditional love is what matters most.

Birthday coming up for my youngest boy, who hasn’t spoken to us in years. Q follower, confabulated stories about being abused, stole from us and banks (unpaid credit cards) and Walmart (for food), and now who knows where in the world - or even maybe dead or imprisoned at this point. No way to know, but he’s 25 in a few weeks. Some history of schizophrenia in both our families, so might be living on the streets?

Ouch.    Rough.    Man, that has to be painful.

How does the youngest boy get along with his siblings?

Doesn't acknowledge. He's gone off the grid completely, blaming everyone but himself for his situation. Frankly, if I run into his therapist - who milked us for a lot of money, and seems to have listened sympathetically to the negative thoughts without getting any corroborating or conflicting factual information - I'll probably punch him in the nose. I blame him for taking a tentative situation and fucking it up to the point of no return, costing me my child.
