Yeah, the flu shot bothered both of us a lot more than the COVID booster.

Filled up the car and on my drive home in my 04 Civic I'm thinkin that it's still getting 34 mpg.  Pretty cool now that the caliper that was hanging up is now fixed and I 'm getting about 5 mpg more.

Then a few miles on I remembered how 50 years earlier my 63 Corvair with a sloppy 6, two one barrels, a DC generator (before alternators), points, et al and 13" wheels was getting 35 mpg.  A dollar's worth of gas at 25.9 Â¢ per gallon went a real long way ...

I miss bench seats, too ... sigh ...

Oh, you too?
Mine was on my truck.
I was driving around a few weeks ago hitting a job, bidding a couple of jobs, collecting some money and getting material. I smelled
somebody’s brakes after making a few signal stops. As I got closer to home... I realized it was me. My left rear disc brake was dragging. Odd.
Boy did it get hot. It melted the glue off the two- sided tape of my wheel weights.

As I disassembled the unit... after it cooled a bit. I saw that the emergency brake part of my Lincoln Mark 4 brake setup was engaging. Well, I thought I disabled those pills a while back.
So, I actually tried to just get some rebuilt calipers from Rock Auto, because I’ve never done a caliper rebuild before. And not wanting to fool around because of the time involved.
Well, they didn’t even list them. What? Wait?
Okay, I’ll try Otter Zone just for the heck of it. “Oh yeah! We can get those easily! Just come in and pay for them. They will be here the next day!” I go in... “Oh! They don’t seem to be available. They’re out of stock”.
Come home... search the interwebby. By golly... Summit Racing list them! They will be available in 1/ 2022. What? Wait?

Okay, it’s time to call outrageous NAPA. "Oh! I list those units. We’ll have them tomorrow.” Kurt shows up... pays the big price... goes to the truck and see’s their very close but not quite there. Take them back to NAPA... “Oh! ordered the front calipers for that ’76 Lincoln Mark 4. Oh!
The rear calipers aren’t available at this time. Come back and try again later.”

I go home and find a rebuild kit on EBay for $16.85. Looks like I’m going to learn something new now.

A fairly easy job, really. Taking them apart... I now know how the mysterious emergency brake works on those calipers. Evidently, the little cup that fits into the back of the caliper piston was working its way out on the driver’s side causing it to engage the pads. I just removed it the rest of the way. Did the same on the passenger side. So now they can’t decide to just move on their own anymore. Thankfully my caliper pistons looked nice. Because they aren’t available anywhere either. Sheesh.

The toughest part was getting the dust seal into its groove. I found some guy on the You Tube thing, who had a simple fix for those. After watching three other guys methods. So, it came together fairly well. Waiting for the parts was annoying with my truck down for about a week... and using Debbie's Durango for jobs.
The completed job...
