Yes it was frightening. Paradise is just up the road from us and
those fires came very close to us. The world was nothing but
darkness, smoke and ash for weeks. Evac warnings and hoping
the power wouldn't get cut. Last Summer was much better even
though it was an awful draught. This summer looks like it's going
to be off to an early, hot start. Another struggle to keep the citrus
groves alive. We had one rainstorm this winter. Just one. About 10%
of what we need to start to recover. Climate change.

I'd prefer the Central California coast.
Nipomo, California would be nice.
BUT... who can afford to live there?

Bill's afraid we will surround his house and start chanting.

A)  Me, too. Actually 2000, but why quibble over a few months.

B)  A DJ's job is to play music to an audience, even if only for them self.  Nothing more.  The audience can take it or leave it.

What you do with the music in order to make a living being a DJ is an entirely different matter.  The term format then comes to mind.

Anyone can play music.  For me, it is all about the segue.  Putting together a series of related or unrelated songs and creating a mood or context.  That is a skill and requires an extensive knowledge of lots of music in order to keep things interesting over time.  Bill has kept me interested for over 20 years now.  That ain't easy.

When someone asks me what instrument I play, not being a musician, I will simply reply, I play the radio ...

A bit late to the party... I've been listening for over 20 years (late 2001) and while I might agree that the station leaned on classic rock back in the day, I think today it's very far from the truth. As I write this Bill is playing a cut from "Fragile" (by Yes), but by and large, I don't hear classic rock anywhere near as often as I did years ago, and I'm not sure it was ever a staple.  btw you should check out the World and Eclectic mix. You'll never hear classic rock on there.

On a somewhat related note ... back in the day when Internet radio was far from a sure thing, and no one had smart phones, I ripped a bunch of RP segments and burned them to disc for long car rides. Hours and hours of 'em. The CDs still live in the car, and while I do not drive very often any more, I will occasionally pop one in. One thing I noticed is that Bill used to talk a lot more during the breaks and quite often back-announced several songs. Today it's just one song.

Maybe folks around the world don't like the extra patter, but I for one would love to hear a bit more Bill during the breaks.

Not long ago I heard the break where Bill was saying "broadcasting to the entire global radiosphere from scenic Paradise, California." ("wow, what a groove!")
