RIP to my brother Jim âDustyâ Sonnier. I called him Bubba Jim (since as a kid I couldnât say âbrother.â)
81 years old but had a life that included:
degree in psychology
Learned Russian
Stationed in Germany
Intercepted Russian transmissions while they were in Afghanistan (âDan, I was a spy.â)
Deputy sheriff
Opened a pet store
Turned me on to the Beatles and Donovan
Dr Pepper plant delivered to his home, he drank it so much - even to his hospice stay
Became editor of the national Betta Fish newsletter
Sold insurance
Wedding photographer
National chess ranking
Grew bonsai
Repaired clarinets
Set type in his wifeâs church
Taught 8th grade science
World expert in Betta fish genetics, raising them in a shed behind his trailer in rural Louisiana
Developed a water filtration system after noticing all his fry were female, so he must live too close to the water tanks and their chemicals
Rock hound
Married 53 years
Built dulcimers from scratch
Cardiac bypass
Stage 4 esophageal cancer
Stage 4 lung cancer
Favorite movie: Good Bad & the Ugly
Home destroyed by hurricane Laura, ended up sleeping in a room donated by someone in his church until
I got him hooked up with hospice inpatient in Lake Charles for his final week
Passed away in his sleep after reconciling with his estranged son.
Somehow, ârestingâ in peace doesnât seem to be his modus operandiâ¦
Quite an amazing life indeed.
The reconciliation was wonderful for them both.
Condolences to you and your family.

Sad news in Quebec. Serge Fiori, arguably the most influential cultural icon here, died last week. He was the lead signer and songwriter of the band Harmonium. They only made 3 records in the middle of the 70s, but their cultural impact was such that Fiori will have a National funeral ceremony. https://youtu.be/uMJ4Tqbn6nA?s...
