Take a message but I wouldn't return their call
For I have no eyes to see him and I thought I lost my way
And I know I've lost the keys to your door, well, ah
And I climbed the highest mountain and I looked down on the sea
And I saw a ship a-sail to the shore
I took a passage to the East and I journeyed to the West
I made love from Battambang to Baltimore
I said, oh, am I running in a race?
I said, oh, am I getting anyplace?
I said, oh, can I make it?
I'm a wandering spirit
Yes, I'm a wandering spirit
Oh yes, I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit, yes I am a restless soul
I'm a wandering spirit, there's no place that I can call my own
I was a glutton at the banquet and I spilt the finest wine
Trod the pyramids and ruins of Angkor
I kissed the Mona Lisa and I breakfasted with kings
And I touched the nerves of nature in the raw
I said, oh, am I running in a race?
I said, oh, take that smile right off your face?
I said, oh, I can't make it?
I'm a wandering spirit
Oh yes, wandering spirit
Oh yes, wandering spirit, no escape, no parole
I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit
There's no place that I can call my home
I said, oh, am I running in a race?
I said, oh, take that smile right off your face?
I said, oh, I can't make it?
I'm a wandering spirit
Oh yes, a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit, looking for a place to go
I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit, no escape, no parole
I'm a wandering spirit, I'm a lost and lonely soul
I'm 53 now, so it's time for me to release an album I guess, but I'm just so god damned tired.
I respect ol' Mick the dude is a sincere rocker imo and he's still goin : )
Just saw the Stones live again with their Hackney Diamonds tour. They still put on an amazing show with several new songs!
I was tempted to dock points just to discourage him from making solo records, but then I remembered that I'm not Keith Richards and it's not my problem.
One of the funnier comments I've read in a while.
I'm calling BS on this account from Belgium 93/94. Plain and simple. I've been to Stones concerts in several countries, including Belgium, and I've never seen early departures in any great number from their shows. Ever. Their fans love them and are rarely, if ever, disappointed. They sure loved them in Werchter in 2014, where I saw them with 80,000 Belgians, who were fired up for the ENTIRE set. At Quebec City in 2015 there were over 100,000 in attendance and no one was leaving there early either. Whether you like them or not, the Stones are beloved wherever they go and the people that pay to see them (prices that are too high, IMO) aren't leaving early.
Calling BS on your BS call. Just because you happened to catch two shows that were great, each of them 20 years after the previously alleged sucky show, does not negate the fact that you both could be speaking the truth.
I watched 20 Feet from Stardom this week on Netflix - a documentary I recommend to all music lovers. I've never been a huge Stones fan (though of course there are some songs I really dig), but it made me think I might not like the Stones at all if it weren't for the BG vox. On this song, it's the only thing I like.
After watching 20 Feet From Stardom I will always see Mick and the backup singer, is it Jean McClain/Pepper MaShay, and believe it is their voice and performance combination that makes this song kapow. Love it!

While listening to this song in Feb. '19, my dismissal of Mick as crap then ('93) and "now" ('16) seems a bit harsh. But he still strikes me as a star who gets by largely because he is/was a star. This song/album was supposed to be a different side of Mick and it still just sounds slick and empty. That was in '93 and I haven't heard much from Mick since then to make me change my mind.
Maybe he and the Stones can still put out music that sounds like they mean it--I don't know. But I ain't feelin' it on this track.
And again, I invite you to compare Mick's version of "Commit a Crime" in front of the Obamas with Howlin' Wolf's. The Wolf brings it and makes the song's story R-e-a-l. Mick just flits around in a tired imitation of his old Red Rooster ways.
Hey guys.... let's all compare a white English rock singer late in his career to an original black American blues icon recorded in his prime. Degree of difficulty: We're comparing a studio recording made decades ago with a recent live appearance at the White House (of all places). Apparently, Jagger was "Red Roostering" (whatever that means) and... well we have no idea what Wolf was doing as we only see still picture.
This is a completely fair comparison.
"Let's see...1993 >> 2016. You're kinda late by a couple of decades, aren't you?"
Mick was crap then and he's crap now. Simple enough for you?
The Stones' latest album has some good tracks, but Mick makes a fool of himself in front of President Obama, despite Jeff Beck's best efforts. Video of Mick bumbling through Howlin' Wolf's "Commit a Crime:" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE-P15qCIqQ

You do realize that this was released 25 years ago don't you?
The statement is no less valid.

This one is not a big favourite, but on RP, cycling in the lanes of Beijing, by this almost tropical summer, going to the coffeeshop, it gives the perfect kick to the beginning of my week, along with the wonderfully hand picked other musical jewels

Here's something simple: you'll have to argue that with the other 4.6 billion on the planet that's seen him. Or what was it last? I've lost count...
Let's see...1993 >> 2016. You're kinda late by a couple of decades, aren't you?
I'm glad Mick didn't hang it up then, since I saw the Stones on the 'Bridges to Babylon' tour in '98 and he was in as good a form as ever.

Well, the Jerk Store called, and they're running out of you.
You are their all time best seller.
Oh yeah, well I had sex with your wife!
Personally, this song makes me kinda wish Mick would hang it up.

I'm not sure how much that dis-qualifies you, but you sure aren't much of a George Costanza fan.
I never saw this episode of Seinfeld but I burst out laughing while watching this clip from The Comeback/Jerk Store episode:

I can't be that much of a jerk. I listen to RP. The best radio in the world.

Nice enough song but glad he didn't quit his day job. Same for Keith and his solo efforts.
If you had perhaps you wouldn't say that.
He says nice things about you.

Indeed it is.

Crazy to compare this -- or anything, really -- to the Stones. Like comparing my painting to Picasso.
I'd love to know everything that's been in that mouth.

Not to knock Keith as Life is a great book and his critiques of Jagger entertaining but... Keith also talks about his own solo efforts as if they are the greatest thing since sliced bread in the book. Neither of their efforts away from the Stones have much to recommend them. Some decent songs can be found in both their efforts but, they clearly need each other to produce greatness.

I'm nearing the end of Keith Richards' biography.
Trust me, he would agree with you!
Personally, I like some of Mick's solo stuff, including this.
huh?
I'd never heard it before and, as my toe's a tappin' away, I'm finding that I like it quite a lot.
Thanks RP for the introduction to some new, old music.
I know! Same here! Good gracious. I actually *LIKE* this...

Same hear. Never heard this before, but love it. Hearing this type of stuff might have caused me to be a bigger Stones/Mick fan way back when.
A little-known track for sure. Quite good.

Yep. I enjoyed the book and all the comments re Mick. I DO like this song, but not much other solo work. Hard to imagine the size of his EGO.

Last time I looked, CDs were a digital format: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002IUO
It's on CD, no? Just get the CD and use iTunes to rip the track to MP3 to shove on an iPod/MP3 player.
I'm laughing so hard I'm crying - what a GREAT description!
Great story! I would have done the same. Too bad that most music stores are staffed with people who wouldn't know their Stones from their Stone Roses. Jagger has another cool song called "Old Habits Die Hard," which I love. It got played a lot, and then just dropped off the radar. Standard radio is SO jaundiced!
Thank all the cosmos for RadioParadise!

If he wasn't a musician he could be on one of those "This is your face on drugs" posters.
And of course I'm only mocking his appearance because I've never been a fan of the Stones in general and Mick specifically.
And still he lands the Brazilian babes while you sit alone in your flat playing pocket pool. How sad for you.
Oh dear oh dear....Clearly you envy old Mick...it's never too late.
No need for "pocket pool" here old fellow/gal.....I'm blessed with a gorgeous wife and amazing children...oh and a palatial home.
How much do you pay at the "Y"...?
It's not about his age so much as how he looks for his age.....he resembles one of those hairless cats.
I'm sure you are a far better example of a man or woman of Micks advancing years, whether it be down to surgery or not.

y' know, the problem I have re: aging & Mick Jagger (and Paul McCartney) is that their dyed hair creates the impression of old men trying to be twenty and thinking no one knows.
I'm not trying to ridicule them. I just think it's sad.
the other side of the bed...
is this a bad time mr. jagger?
Seems like he was on a bed with a chick on She's the Boss. Maybe he just likes beds.
So, how do you feel about here in '09?
Nope.... Jimmy Rip!
indeed! I stand corrected ...

I think the Stones are one of the great country bands, but I agree with you on this tune —- really rockin.
How dare he age!
