I agree. I think it helped that I saw The Pink Panther when I was a young kid and could… appreciate the humour. Being There didn’t come out until I was finishing secondary school and again I could appreciate the humour and Sellers’ stellar performance. Sadly I only ever saw Dr Strangelove much later on a tiny TV.

Segued seamlessly and easily- not hard at all.

Anything by Henry Mancini is a treasure

Settle back and get ready to enjoy "Monsters" by Dave Matthews Band and "I'm Sitting On Top Of The World" by Harry Manx, coming up next!

Nah, this is EXACTLY the sort of eclectic I'm here for. Alt-J, Fleetwood Mac then the Henry Mancini orchestra is what my Friday afternoon before I can quit and drink wine is all about

Inspired, and I am not sure why - both are masterpieces.

Again 10/4/23
Such a seamless segue, too. 10/10
Oh wow!. Instantly transported back to 80's sunday afternoons and settling down with my dad to watch the Pink Panther show (and the Aardvark too!)

fabulous.

Why not both?
Not only is this a work of genius, this particular performance is outstanding.
Now play the theme from "Peter Gunn"!!
This one of very few music pieces with jazzy section I actually enjoy.

Right on!

GODLIKE!!!  ICONIC!!!
Fantastic song

It's got a similar minor-key vibe going on there, with some "tense" semi-tones in the melody.

Hey, isn't that The Arm guy from Twin Peaks?
I think the pink panther cartoon series really used this music to such great effect as there was no talking in them. The music did all the emotion conveying. Classic

Simply one of the greatest songs of all time! Great movie series too ...

Wrong movie. Sorry, I have to  jump on this.

Love the way Mancini always set the tempo with his cymbal at the beginning and kept it through the whole number.  Fantastic ability to keep tempo and great dynamics.

Have to politely disagree - Dr. Strangelove was brilliant and we lived through these crazy times...things change and stay the same, don't they? The theme was perfect for the intro to a silly but fun movie

This genuinely outstanding, so...
Let's assume for a moment Mancini didn't write this one.

Il state my totally subjective opinion that this puts him up to immortal.

I've heard that Mancini was kind of a jerk... fwiw
I used to be in the Royal Artillery and remember being on parade once in the mid 80's. The band struck up this as the Inspecting Officer started doing his walk round.

I was in the rear rank and could see shoulders twitching as soldiers were trying not to laugh.
not only a great song
this is the best version of it
Listen to the music, start laughing.

It is unquestionably good in my opinion. In fact I would say it is genius and this is sometimes lost in its over-familiarity.

Couldn't that same question be asked of any very "familiar" tune?

The 'familiarity' exists, BECAUSE it is a great, 'piece of music'. {#Laughing} MmmHmmm.

This one happens to be movie music. Pink Panther movies were family favorites when I was growing up. Peter Sellers at his finest.
Mancini wrote some great stuff. Love this one, in particular.

Got a chuckle hearing this and remembering the movie series. But I really appreciate the musical history RP provides-as well as the new music. Mancini was big in this time and some may think formulaic, but it worked with the movies he scored. Styles come and go, and come back again. Think mid-century architecture.

Does anyone else hear this song and immediately see scenes of Clouseau fighting Kato in their head?
I suspect the people who don't like this are either too young to have watched the movies as a child or are able to disassociate the music with the nostalgia and rate it purely on the sound. And they don't like it. Which is fine.
How can you not like a tune that throws you back to your living room as a kid watching the Pink Panther?

1st question: Who?
  Answer: Troglodytes.

2nd question: Why?
Answer: I'm afraid there my not be an answer. Never apply logic to an illogical situation. It just introduces stress for all concerned.

3rd question: How?
Answer: That one is easy. Just suspend all semblance of good taste, and hit the "1" button.

Hope that clears it up for you my friend.

I have a multi disc Mancini collection at home that I love, and it always strikes me that he would've been a great rock & roller if he were born a few decades later. His stuff had cojones.

An outstanding example of the sum being waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than its parts, Bravo for programming outside the box Bill, wonderful.

A set like this would be a welcome departure.{#Bananasplit}

The problem with dropping some Mancini in the mix is that I kinda want to make myself a drink and hang out with him for another hour. But alas he'll be leaving after this number. =(

Looks like as by Aug 20th the same combination of songs is presented ... maybe a bit of a repetition here?
