Slide into the cool mud
Underneath the pines
Somewhere to your right or left
Is my body you can find

We are swimming with no clothes on
In a river in the dark
And I am holding on to you, boy
In the faint light of the stars

So you wade out across the marsh
Water up to your waist
Carry our stuff above your head
Till the dune comes to a crest

We are swimming with no clothes on
In a river in the dark
And I am holding on to you, boy
In the faint light of the stars

But sometimes I feel it
In a dream I know I've been there
We were sleeping by the ocean
We were laughing on the warm sand
We stay up all night
And we wake up in the sunlight
We got dreams we keep together
We got time to spend, oh, hell yeah

We are swimming with no clothes on
In a river in the dark
And I am holding on to you, boy
In the faint light of the stars

We are lying
On the beach now
Everything is warm
We are staying up
Through a wild night
In the faint light
Of the headlights
Of passing cars

I wonder if the algorithm should be adjusted to exclude 1s and 10s, and base the popularity of 2s thru 9s; throwing out extremes which are likely unreliable.  But results might be very close to the same anyway...

I think you might be over-thinking this; surely the ratings system is just a bit of fun (and a way to add songs to your personal favourites).
I never really was able to get into Vampire Weekend, but everything I've heard from Rostam solo I've quite enjoyed.
what a fantastic rendering for the cover. really nice.

Interesting when a new track hits RP and one checks the ratings, like this one.  Its not bad, I mean its standard RP fare.  Good stuff.  But it has 10's.  10's?  Godlike?  So, are these folks family?  Do they know this artist and are just enthusiatic at hearing him on RP?  Or are they the raters that slap a 10 on every RP track cause Bill played it?  Just so odd.  As far as I'm concerned a 10 must be earned by superior writing, timelessness and a nod to some cultural relevance.  No offense to the folks that hear this here, but really?  Really, really?

Well, although I might in príncipe agree with you, that's why we have the histogram (chart) that will probably tell you the real story. We are very different and it's hard to say someone give this or that as a rating. Maybe people are building a playlist? Maybe they are feeling bad? Maybe they have their toddler holding their phone? ;-)
This makes my hairs stand up in the best way possible! I love it so much.

LOL, at first I thought this was Cher...
For all the world it sounds like the singer has been hit with a tranquilzer dart and is trying valiantly to finish the song before he is rendered unconscious and is just.... barely.... making...... it........
That image of "Batmanglij performing in July 2020" looks pretty full on.

that ending bass might blow your speakers... or brown note
this is an interesting tune - the mix is beyond strange… thanks for the introduction Billg!
Bumpin 8 to 9.

More of Rostam, Mr.Bill.

edit: this is becoming one of these songs that make me stop and listen.

I have gone back and down-rated a few of my 10s. Not because I like them any less, but because there are some songs that transcend mere music.
'Strange Fruit' is one example - there's so much history, sadness and power in it. Ms Holiday took a huge risk recording it at all.

So yeah, I see your point. But notice how many 7s there are, and a handful of 1s (which I don't even bother with). Pretty typical bell curve.

Every RP listener has not only their own opinion of the song, but their own way of using the ratings system. I've seen people give hundreds of ratings, all of them 1 or 10.

Might want to adjust your expectations accordingly.

Not bad.  Good road music.  Eddie Vedder had a kid with the Great Lake Swimmers

Maybe all new songs start at 10 so they get some playing and then people add their own opinions.  If it started at 0 it would never get played and no one would be able to rate it.

A 10 on this site is a completely subjective matter that does not need to conform to my standards or yours or anyone else's. That's well before we even consider how the "offending" voters perceive the song - it may really strike the perfect tone for them or have lyrics that touch upon a tender subject or makes them feel alive/free/happy/wistful/whatever.

Your reasons for rating the songs here are completely legitimate, both for the individual tunes and the methodology by which you rate them. And so are those for everyone else.
