"Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream", she said
"The one that makes me laugh", she said
And threw her arms around my neck

"Show me how you do it,
And I'll promise you, I'll promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"

Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face, I kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways
I had to make her glow

"Why are you so far away?", she said
"Why won't you ever know,
That I'm in love with you?
That I'm in love with you?"

You - soft and only
You - lost and lonely
You - strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must've been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name,
I opened up my eyes

And found myself alone, alone,
Alone above a raging sea
Stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You - soft and only
You - you're lost and lonely
You - just like heaven

Yeah, this one is just magic.  While it bothers me a bit that it was their biggest commercial hit and my favourite Cure song isn't some little-known gem, there it is.  I said it.  Just Like Heaven is my favourite Cure song and I'm not ashamed, dammit.  Okay, I'm a little ashamed, but still.

GREAT TUNE!!

Beautiful and creative lyrically. Masterful tune and production. On top of all this, the song has not aged a day. (Like much of The Cure’s work.) Godlike.

Reminds me of my younger self

The mutt's nuts.
So happy to see this rated over 8, as it shows that even pop music can do well here. This song always brings a tear to my eye (for over 30 years!) while I'm bopping all over, so wonderful!
I've had to play drums for this song a few times. I can assure you it's a real challenge! Great stuff.
Oh this comment is SO PERFECT!
Exactly why I’ve loved RP for so long.  hpeyerl+rp wrote:

Magnificent!!!
So many memories...
I don’t know, I frequently struggle with the ratings. Yeah, I know it’s totally up to me to decide what I like and why, but I want to be consistent, and that can be difficult.

For instance, am I rating how good I think the song or how skilled the performance is? Sometimes.

Am I recognizing how influential or impactful I think it is? Sometimes.

Or am I simply rating how much I like it? Sometimes, and in this case, yes.

Therefore, I raise my personal rating from 9 to 10.
Yep, done. OK, next.
One of the sweetest, softest, sexiest and saddest pop love songs there is.

Thank you, William, for introducing me and hubby to The Cure.  This is outstanding, and rated accordingly.
Never, ever, ever gets old. Stops me in my tracks each time.

I tuned in to RP this morning and the first song I hear is this. Never heard it before. It stopped me in my tracks - what beautiful music and lyrics.  This has made my day!  Another serendipitous moment thanks to the ever wonderful Radio Paradise.
Perfect pop. I had a moment of pure joy when this came on in the car recently and my daughter and I sang along together.

If you can show me how you do that trick, I'll run away with you.
Always memories of shared house getting ready to go out and throwing ourselves around with blasting out loud. What happened to my yoof?
Check out the Dinosaur Jr cover of this.

It is AWESOME
Back when life was simple, or I was just young (and did not pay much attention to Reagan and Gorbačov).
You just *have* to dance around when this comes on!

If someone says a bad word about The Cure and this song, then they is my enemy;))))))
The only "cure" I wana hear: The Cure
One word: Yes
Oh the music!  The vocals!  The lyrics!  True artistry.  Stratospheric.
Bill & Rebecca on a roll tonight:
The Cure, The Beat (English), Al Stewart

What a masterpiece !
Les enfants du rock

My fav Cure track.  The acoustic version is just as good!
I believe you are my new favorite internet radio station! Thank you for introducing me to Danny Gatton!
That first verse just strikes to the heart. I am back in high school and drunk with infatuation.  What a high.

One of my favourite songs ever.

It was originally offered by the Cure to a French TV music programme in 1986. as their theme song. I was ten and I can still remember I loved that tune. Didn't have any lyrics at the time.

Thanks for keeping it present :-)

As to the trick, I think there's the magic, the seductive interpretation as well as the real magic trick of feeling carried away, butterflies in your belly, when you realise you love someone and they come within your sight.

So I'm sitting here listening to some of the more melodic offerings of A Perfect Circle ("So Long And Thanks For All The Fish") and Lou Reed ("What's Good"). Bill will be playing something by The Cure soon, says I. And there it was: "Just Like Heaven." Truly.

Thanks Bill, you never disappoint.

In fact, typically in most scoring systems 5, 6, 7 makes you passive, 8-10 is a promoter and 4 and fewer is a detractor.

Regardless, this track is clearly a 10, so it's a moot point :D

Net Promoter Score.  The reason why so many service people are begging you for 9 & 10 ratings.  Not sure "most scoring systems" is a correct characterization, though it's certainly prevalent enough these days.

What do you mean by "only" 7...?

I just keep wondering how so many people don't seem to understand the concept of a 1 to 10-rating system... One can also see that when way too many rate a song (or a movie!) with a '10' just because they like it. In other words: a '7' is good!

I assumed he was mainly referring to an actual magic trick, thus the use of that word.
"...Smith said the opening line of the song ('Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick') refers to his childhood memories of mastering magic tricks, but added 'on another [level], it's about a seduction trick, from much later in my life'..."

Now that's a great Lazarus-like comment!

I came here to say that, only in the last few years, did I realize this was a different song than "Friday I'm in Love" - and while that song is OK, this one here is freaking awesome and I just now bumped it to a 9.  If not for the sonic similarities to that other one I might even go to a 10.  I just adore songs with a storyline....something more than just words that rhyme.  LONG LIVE RP!!

Such a great song from an amazing band.
Been a 10 for me since the day I first heard it, still a 10 today - many years later.

Reminds me of a girl back then - no longer; ended as abruptly as this song...
I noticed that the Cure's live gigs attract a wide diversity of people. 50+ men like me but also teenage girls. This is one of the songs that had them dancing like, well like only young girls can. Until then they made me think they were at the wrong concert.
Love this one!!
great song to start a Friday morning with — thanks {#Bananajam}{#Dancingbanana_2}{#Bananapiano}{#Bananasplit}{#Guitarist}{#Jump}
Had to move to 9....Had to!
Still a 10.
Perfect for an overcast morning.  So joyful.
psd'd from chronically whiney depressive TY Radiohead to something with some tuneful cojones. thump and dance me through a rainy saturday.

How can I get anything done today with a great set list that is keeping me listening?{#Dancingbanana_2}

I looked it up on your reccommendation, it had a nice girl-scouts-around-the-campfire sound to it but I didn't care for it

Goldfinger did a pretty good cover of this, if anybody is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdrzFTC4_lw
Sweet, perfect and innocent! The magnificent Cure!
     I confessed considering
       How she asked me
      'How you do that trick.'

One of the most exuberant, innocent, catchy, spell-inducing songs ever; maybe their best. Makes me want to hear The Ocean Blue...
This is simply a nearly perfect pop song.

Unable to up grade to 11.

This song, I know,,,,, I always post about it. It just sends me back to the day. In fact it was 26 years ago yesterday.
I am a lucky person. I hope you and anyone else who finds songs that evoke the same feelings are as lucky.
Best wishes.
There's no activity, including sitting at my desk dreaming of all the places I want to go see, that this song does not compliment.

Take me away, DJ...
If only I could go back in time to the year this was written. Where's that f'ing hot tub when you need it?

Easily my fav Cure tune! The musical equivalent of a segue from their typical Qualudes and Zoloft to hash with Jack over Coke.
The Cure is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Shameful!!!!  Even if you don't like them, they were influential and productive.
Terrific set.  Hats off to the DJ (again).
