Like to tell you 'bout my baby.
You know she comes around.
She's about five feet four,
From her head to the ground.
You know she comes around here
Just about midnight.
She makes me feel so good, Lord.
She makes me feel alright.
And her name is G-L-O-R-I,I,I,I..
G-L-O-R-I-A (Gloria)
G-L-O-R-I-A (Gloria)
I'm gonna shout it all night (Gloria)
I'm gonna shout it every day (Gloria)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

(Guitar Solo)

She comes around here,
Just about midnight.
She makes me feels so good, Lord.
She makes me feel alright.
She comes walking down my street,
And then she comes to my house
She knocks upon my door.
And then she comes to my room.
And then she makes me feel alright.
G-L-O-R-I-A (Gloria)
G-L-O-R-I-A (Gloria)
I'm gonna shout it all night (Gloria)
I'm gonna shout it every day (Gloria)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Thank You for the info!
A sin this isn't at least a 9!
Van can still be seen in and around his hometown of Belfast. He is not very communicative and you would be lucky to get a few words out of him. Still, he was great in his day and we are thankful to the boy from East Belfast for his legacy of music.
lighting in a bottle.  sublime.  thank you.

Interesting, thanks!
The staying power of this song over the decades is amazing.  Covered by so many college bands (e.g. the White Animals) in fraternity houses all over the South, it was nearly an anthem in the 70s and 80s.  Just a fun, raucous song that has so many early elements of rock and roll.
You'd be hard pressed to find more raw, raucous, passionate and energetic 2:36 of rock music.

Wikipedia says this came out in '64. That's really early:  I would've guessed '66 at the earliest.

Eternal 10. The other guys in Them must've been gutted when Van left to go solo.
Just saw on Wikipedia that Van the Man is "Sir Ivan."

That's disappointing. Great music. I'm in turmoil. Like WTF?!

Even Mick Jagger turned that down, as soon as he heard what Keith Richards thought about it, but nonetheless, even if it choked him to do it, he said Thanks but no, thanks, or words to that effect.

It's gonna be like listening to Ted Nugent, hating that I like the music.

There is so much I love about RP.  I just skip over Van Morrison, The Grateful Dead, Rusted Root, Counting Crows, Neil Young, Bob Marley, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Natalie Merchant, Sheryl Crow, Phish, Wilco, Cake, Mike Doughty, etc.

I don't doubt their influence or popularity,  I just can't stand the vocals.  And regarding The Dead, I can't find one redeeming quality...I just don't get it.

I agree about the Grateful Dead.  I've never heard one track that made me want to investigate their back catalogue, or for that matter do anything other than reach for the PSD.  But hey,  à chacun son goût.
We were young.
High schoolers.
We danced.
Sweat.
Dreamed.
I prefer this version: "Les Maniacs live in budokan"

I would bet money that you never saw the Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Bob Marley, the Stones, Natalie Merchant of the Doors live! If you had, your mind would have been sufficiently blown that you would never have written such nonsense. I saw the Dead about 300 times and the other bands I just mentioned at least once. They all were simply from heaven! But everyone has their own taste. Those bands are indeed forming the core of what kind of music most RP listeners adore! But we also love African, Caribbean, Irish, and many other forms of music including classical! We are an eclectic bunch, but if you don't like those bands, you really ought to check if your heart is beating or your ears are not plugged up! Just teasin'! Hope you don't take offense. Peace
Iconic song written by Van the Man at the tender age of 18.

Garage...yes. Pop!....no
one of the most re-released songs in history, I hear.

Well Larrygrrl, if you don't like a song then rate it low but saying you are rating it as a 0 or 1 is plain stupid.

Van Morrison is one of the biggest influences in modern music.  Sure he has a personality bypass but he produced three solo albums after his time with Them that are very highly thought of... Astral Weeks, Moondance and Tupelo Honey.

If you don't like his vocals, I suspect you don't like much of the content on RP.

Funny, my ears can't handle the vocals, and now I know why.  Van Morrison is anathema to my soul.  Sorry, but it's a solid 0 for me.

I never heard of them. Them is good.. are good.. were good. Oh never mind! {#Doh}
woo-hoo! If I'm on the road it makes my foot step on this gas when young Ginger-haired Van really belts out this timeless beauty!
Screaming gloria? That's what it's about, and it's Van the Man, so...
And you know something?  50 years later we are now taking group selfie photos like that on the cover - from above looking down.

Ha!

Such a great 60's garage band song: easy to figure out, easy lead section, don't have to sing well, 'racy' lyrics
Godlike  : )
One of the great RNR songs!

Great song, crap voice.
I don't like this song so much that I thought it was by Creedance Clearwater Revival. Blech.

I am proud to say I saw Van at THE Armadillo Word Headquarters, Austin, TX back in 1973 I think it was. Okay, he is a GOD to me but I think you are just yanking a chain here. He has so much more than this... Into the Mystic comes to mind

JUST SHOOT YOURSELF AND MAKE IT GO AWAY. YOU OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T GET IT THEN, OR NOW.

Ha. My inability to 'get it then, or now' offers no reason to "shoot myself". Offering an opinion that is contrary to yours really shouldn't be a springboard for you to advertise your immaturity. I appreciate that you disagree with me...but could you please just try keeping the bar higher on this forum without the added "middle school", knee-jerk reactionary comments? By the way, you don't have to shout...I can hear you perfectly well.
I think I dislike every possible attempt at this repetitive and mediocre tune. This one features an out of tune bass guitar. Yippee. As I was once in a cover band playing this song...its really a feat of boredom. It's more fun to play live to an adoring crowd than it is to listen here on RP.

High school daze.....{#Dance}
