I felt like I could die
Yesterday I got so old
It made me want to cry
Go on go on
Just walk away
Go on go on
Your choice is made
Go on go on
And disappear
Go on go on
Away from here
And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween
Without you
Without you
Yesterday I got so scared
I shivered like a child
Yesterday away from you
It froze me deep inside
Come back come back
Don't walk away
Come back come back
Come back today
Come back come back
Why can't you see?
Come back come back
Come back to me
And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween
Without you
Just realized I hadn't rated this one.
Corrected that
I just realized the same thing! All those years with RP and somehow I've missed to rate this. Back then it was a solid 10. Still is.
One of my favorite concerts of all time. Early summer in an outdoor amphitheater in St. Louis, early 90s. Right before the show was starting, the perfect weather changed and got ominous, dark clouds moved in threatening rain, and more. I figured it would start raining like hell and maybe even cause the show to be cancelled, it was looking that bad.
The warmup band, pretty good, but I forget their name, came on looking at the sky nervously but the rain held off and they had a great set.
Then right before the Cure came on, I'm getting a shiver as I recall this now, the sky literally turned into a giant green swirling cauldron, complete with the occasional lighting flash hidden in the depths - those of you from the midwest may have seen these pre-tornado beasties. The wind picked up and the temperature dropped, now I'm thinking not only might the show be cancelled, but in this large crowd and the car far away in distant parking lot, I might be in danger.
The Cure took the stage to the most perfect Cure-like environment imaginable, dark and dangerous, like a Hollywood movie, only real, and played a killer show. Damn that was a fine night indeed.
Heard them live twice, summer outdoor festivals both times, rained both times only on the day they played :)

Now I know why Lazarus loves to dance buck-ass naked like a bow-legged mule-skinner. Gee, that's a lot of hyphens
No complaints from The Hyphenation Appreciation Society.

Great story! I just saw them last night (indoors, so no foreboding weather), and Robert and the boys killed it! The setlist had songs from 1979 along with new ones, and everything in between (days). Best show I've ever seen by them was in Giants Stadium in New Jersey in 1989; it was astonishing to see over 50,000 people show up for a band that didn't even get any major radio airplay.
They sounded great

Poor Stingray. Whatever became of our capslock comrade?
1/20/23: Nice segue from Rush "The Spirit of Radio" --> this.
I Will Possess Your Heart - DCFC
Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
In-Between Days - The Cure
A heartfelt set there BillG
1985 was a year of many seminal changes and new things for me. This song always takes me back to that time, perhaps more than any other.
Me too, brother...it was the year it all changed...and this song was playing along...

Same here, MM Prague. This takes me back to tons of college parties at the Univ of Illinois back in the day. Great times with some great friends.
NO MELODY!
Don't come back, please!

Especially the segue from Love Will Tear Us Apart to In-Between Days. What's the emoji for chef's kiss?
We be dancin' in the kitchen!
Me too! My morning coffee is kicking in!
I think this is the first time i've read the lyrics despite loving the Cure for decades.
"When I said it was true that it couldn't be me and her inbetween without you"
IS this a song about someone begging his partner to come back because he suggested a threesome? :P
And Brittish ofcourse!!!!

What a cool song! Thanks!!!
AWE SO GOOD
'Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race,'
(For those not old enough to remember!)
Never really went for The Cure in the day - I was too much of a music snob.
Radio Paradise has (hopefully) resolved that problem.
If you get the chance... get on down!
What will the "Shiver Mix" - 2018 remaster of this song be like...........?
We need a "Play it Again Button"!
What a great idea!
Odd, since this song is from 1985; older than either of those songs - much older than the second one you mentioned. There are some similarities in some of their chord progressions and guitar sound sometime, though.
Well said. Listening to the arrangement, and trying to remove my personal knowledge and bias from the equation, I really believe this could pass for a new song. It certainly doesn’t sound 30 years old. The energy from the drumming is palpable. A solid 9 for me.
oh yeah, I thought this was friday I'm in love

That's one of the first times I have literally lol... for a long time... "a bit dark"? And the winner for the understatement of the last 30 years is?? I really am sorry... I don't want to be one of those shut-ins who do nothing but spew sarcasm and bile... It's just to have one of the pioneers of Goth, and introspective, nihilistic music called 'a bit dark'? Well I just chuckled again...
I remember when I lived in Miami I took my wife, at the time, to see them in concert and she thought she was going to hate it.. but the intricate melodies, sweeping guitars, and mid-evil theatrics if you will... actually impressed her greatly.

Bill's obvious love for this band will always be alien to me!
I do not know anybody (!!!) in my neighbourhood who EVER had a CURE-phase!
More like 2005, I'd say. Keef looks worse than that now!
I agree... this song is marvelous...
Miss you so much, Cynaera...
love this song...
And massively uplifting .... Come back come back to me
