If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself
If I gave you time to change my mind
I'd find a way just to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true

Wow…takes me way back. To a whole different world
I don't care if y'all call me a grumpy old hag, which I am of course, but I just cannot with all this Rod Stewart hate on RP. Shame on you all. Bill should ban you off of here, whiny little jerks.

Hmmmmm being a teenager, this song brings me to.......angst, alcohol, and trying to bend this song into feelings for a girl.....

Yup me too & I'm in the UK.
Totally ruined the Small Faces - too much of an extrovert
That said as vocals with Python Lee Jackson in 1968 he was brilliant. Worth a play Bill!

Never liked it then (or him for that matter), sounds awful in the classic rock sense now.

Articulated very well. And way too many joints, I would add.

Do we have to call him Sir Rod now?

Tim Hardin wrote this song.
Rod didn't have a lot of inspiration when writing this one. And the fiddle is awful.

Need a cleaner version (sounds like an old album played way too many times). I will say that this song (summer of 71) sure brings back some memories. I just retired as a full-time teacher a week ago after 44 years, and this song was on the airways when I started; also just realized how well written it is.
Should I quit my job and become a teacher? jukes1 wrote:

Doc: Then don't do that
The left-vs-right channel processing distinction is super distracting while wearing headphones.

Yes!
I am not a Rod Stewart fan by a long shot, but this album is good. Brings back good memories of a certain time in my life.
Must play it tonight.

Would love to hear some Tim Hardin on RP! Thanks for all the great music Bill and Rebecca!
Love the organ.
Dude!!!!!
The Javelin was an awesome car. Not as cool as a Gremlin or Pacer though.
I think I have copies of this album on 8-track, cassette, LP, CD, MP3, and permanently memorized in my little pea-sized brain.
it is one of my "must have" 10 albums to have if I ever get stuck on a desert island. It is tied to too many really good memories of high school.

This was a great album.
I saw him with the Faces back in the day, in Pittsburgh, and it was one of the better concerts I have seen to this date. He was in his prime. He did this one facing off with Ronnie Wood; they ended up doing the end part on their knees, facing each other.
And, as part of that show, they kicked soccer balls into the arena. Apparently, Rod was a soccer stud earlier in his life.

Aw man! This album is so old that I had it on 8-Track tape!
Definitely brings back more than a few wonderful summer memories. I don't care what anyone says, the 68' AMC Javelin was a cool car
Argghhh! My ears are bleeding. PSD.
Never heard this one before. Is it just me, or is the recording absolutely *pants*
Rod, Rod, Rod, you had some street cred back in the day; how did it all go so horribly wrong?
(No, we don't think you're sexy.)

That was quite a summer for me.
......... luv it - big FAT 9
More proof that being a successful singer does not require a conventional-sounding voice. So why is only one body type allowed for super models?
Sappy and moving at the same time.
really? no comments...hearing this makes me want to hear the whole album. I don't have it, i don't think. some good stuff on there.
Bill must be psychic or something... this song has been in my head recently for no good reason. I love old Rod...so many classics that still sound awesome!
