Rod Stewart is not an everyday word for me, but I've heard it three times now, once out of my own mouth.
Synchronicity's thick tonight.
Synchronicity's thick tonight.
The guitar sound reminds me of a cut of Hoochie Coochie man from a Muddy Waters tribute album featuring the vocals of Paul Rodgers (Free) with Steve Miller playing jokey ( and some classic) guitar riffs behind him.
Incidentally Jeff Beck appears on the same album.
Miller was a highly talented guitarist (actually a prodigy of Les Paul), who it seems never really realized the limits of his playing, being content to relax after achieving commercial success. The Joker.
Not being driven to play as many notes as possible in the given time, he plays some toe-curlingly tasty licks on this track. Muddy Water Blues: A Tribute to Muddy Waters

Rod Stewart did his best work with Beck.
Nice!

Where is RT. Love this one.
I borrowed the "Jeff Beck At Ronny Scotts" dvd recently, he is some player, guest spots from Clapton, Imogen Heep, Joss Stone, superb little bassist too!
All stars in the audience too, no wonder they call him The Gov'nor.
I saw him in Beck, Bogart and Appice in the 70's, Appice did an awesome solo. At the allotted point he starts his solo, the other two supped their pints, then on came the dry ice, flooding the stage. This drifted away, leaving a drummer-free drum set, with the solo going on over the PA. We were all slightly bemused for a bit. Then the dry ice flooded back in and covered the stage.
When it all disappeared there was Appice drumming on as if nothing had happened. Awesome, and seamless, we couldn't hear any seams between Appice,PA, and Appice. Real showmanship.
A great night

Rock on!
So good to hear this...when Rod was real and not a crooner!
Was there ever a time that Jeff Beck played the guitar like he didn't invent it ?
If so it isn't in this millennia. One of the very best !
I'm having a hard time figuring out why this only has an average rating of 6.9. I always thought it was a monster - from when I first heard it as a high school kid and still now. Whenever I put this CD on, this is still the song I'm looking forward to the most. From the comment below, I'd really like to hear the Beck, Bogart, and Appice version.
Bill, I hope you're doing a Halloween playlist again this year...and this should be on it for sure.

I never thought i'd be able to stomach anything with Rod Stewart anywhere near it but this is pretty cool.
this was when Rod really rocked!! thanks Bill!! But the Beck,Bogart and Appice version was wicked!

music for grown-ups from when we were kids... timeless!
This was such a good band. I always felt Rod Stewart's best work was this album and Beck-Ola. Funny how Led Zeppelin almost ended up with Rod as their front man.
Great song, Good days! Wish Rod Stewart would have stayed with this genre.

Speaking of how good he used to be, anybody remember a song he used to do called "Pretty Flamingo?"

man i love this shit
I caught Jeff a few years ago and he did an instrumental version of the Beatles "A Day In The Life" that had the crowd speechless....Incredible...
Did White Stripes cover this?
Or does it just sound that way?

Amen.....just experienced the verbal, chronoligical destruction of what used to be a bad ass, sensual singer.....
Not his best... please, follow it with Stevie...
Jeff Beck was hot hot last Thurs nite. He still has it going for sure.

I second that wholeheartedly!

Has Rod's baby been born yet? Girl or boy rocker? Shows ya: If you have enough money and fame you can start over again as often as you want.

Drugs... Gimmee drugs! (Most excellent!)
They just don't make 'em like "Truth" anymore *sigh*...
Very groovin' Song!

Given, this is the Rod I want to remember. But with his list of ex wifes and his likes for clothes, I dont fault him for doing what he has to do to keep the green backs rolling. Besides it keeps a lot of road dogs employed. Not that I would cross the street to see him now, even with a comp.
I do enjoy Rod with Jeff Beck best. However, your "vivid word picture" in response to the suggestion that now he could only be fended off with a nose hair trimmer had me laughing-Thanks

Takes me back to '68 and the era of the Garnde Ballroom in Detroit. Long live "Uncle" Russ Gibb!

This reminds me - we need to get some old Faces songs on RP (never heard any here ...except Ooh La La I suppose, which is the other dude singing - forget his name - Ronnie something...)
I relly enjoy this track, always reminds me of Casino. Scorsese usually picks great music for his movies.
Nothing less than 10. JB still rocks.
It's really tragic that Rod Stewart has lost his edge, trapped in the world of Schlocky covers.
I recently received Five Guys Walk Into a Bar, the Faces anthology. It has all of the stuff from the Faces, when he was...good. May try to get some uploaded. RP only has one Faces song on the playlist.
Nice segue from Muddy himself to this, now will we follow it up with a rousing rensition of "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?"
Stewart, who used to be so shy he'd hide behind the stacks while he sang. Now, the only way to fend him off is with a nose-hair trimmer.

cranky <$*&%*$>s
He ain't superstitious...he's super-RIFF- ic!

Ummm, got a 4 from me. I'm a fan of Jeff Beck and earlier Rod Stewart, but this track just doesn't do it for me.
If this is real music, than I must be into unreal music.

Disaster strikes.
wow! surprised to hear Rods voice here! not bad although I like him more when he was with Faces.
pretender
Just goes to show that even legends like Beck make mistakes like Stewart, who used to be so shy he'd hide behind the stacks while he sang. Now, the only way to fend him off is with a nose-hair trimmer.
Great tune, though, especially if I imagine someone else singing.
Oh yeah, baby!

"Flame on!"--isn't that something one of the Fantastic Four used to say?
Anyway, you really don't like ANYTHING JB has done? With the range of styles this guy has? From this to "Goin' Down" to the spiritual "People Get Ready" (also with RS) to some of his techno-metal stuff on "There and Back"? Boy, you're hard to please.
I could have sworn that it was Beckola--back when I bought the 8 track; when Rod the Mod was post-Faces & Pre-schlock. He USED to rock it.
I really have never liked anything JB has done. This song included. That doesn't mean that I don't respect what a great guitarist he is and what far-reaching influence he's had on rock, but I just don't like the music. Same with Clapton just in case you were wondering.
Flame on.

This is the roots of modern rock & roll. It\'s not nice to dis your ancestors.
Rod never sang better than when he was with Jeff, and Jeff never had a better singer than Rod.
Amen to that. This is back when Rod was a rocker. Jeff still is. I don't see how people can call this truly awful, but there you go, individual taste. Too bad they can't respect others.
The reason I like this song is because it reminds me of that cool scene in \"Casino\". It fit the mood perfect. I suppose if I am going to hear Rod on RP, I want it to be this.
A masterpiece.
Yes!! Very excellent! May he Rest in Peace Thanx RP!
