My daughter's boyfriend, based on my musical tastes, gave me Colour of Spring for Christmas. It was a good choice. I didn't have any of their music in my collection, though always enjoyed hearing it here on RP. Now I can hear it here anytime.

Like many others, this album didn't resonate with me when it came out.  But as time passed, and I heard it more, I heard it differently, and now it's one of my favorites.  Side A/first 3 tracks should always be played as one.

All of the high praise and accolades that is directed at East of Eden, I attribute to The Colour of Spring. I do see the meditative post-rock genre imagining originality of the last two Talk Talk albums, but they never made it close to my Top Albums Ever list, like Colour of Spring did. At least we agree on the brilliance of the band..

Widely cited by musicians like Guy Garvey (Elbow) and suchlike as one of the most influential of all albums.  Received a bit of, um, a mixed reception when it came out but it's undeniably a classic.  For those in the UK, there was a programme celebrating the 25th anniversary of its release earlier this year, presented by the aforementioned Mr Garvey. on Radio 6 Music.  It may still be available on catch-up: it's not a hagiography and is well worth a listen.

I've never really acquired the taste for these guys, but I can appreciate that this is probably better than most music released in 1988. I know that isn't saying very much - 1988 was the worst year for music in the 1980s, and maybe the worst in my lifetime.

Everything in this album approached genius levels IMHO, as does Mark Hollis' solo album. New romanticism meets modern jazz crossover, with real feeling.

Bought the CD in the 80s and was surprised and alienated at first.

Then listend to it over and over and it started to grow. 

Now consider it one of the best CDs I own.

DEFINITELY pick up the CD!  The only real way to appreciate it fully, IMHO, is to get comfortable and sit down and listen to it all the way through at volume.... a nice glass of wine adds a dimension as well!!!
