I can see the moon and it seems so clear
You can take the road that takes you to the stars now
I can take a road that'll see me through
I can take a road that'll see me through.
You can take a road that takes you to the stars now
I can take a road that'll see me through

Why does his music sound better every time it airs?
It should be a saying, hey I didn't like cigars at first but then it went Nick Drake.
I judged an elementary school science fair and a display that stood out was "at what age does someone like coffee?" and they'd given coffee to a whole bunch of people, asked if they liked it, and tabulated the results based on their age.
A really interesting graph came out of it, with no no no no no YES YES YES YES results. So, like cigars and coffee, I'm certain that loving Nick is something that happens as you get older. Biochemically.
Well, those are understated lyrics, eh?
This is the "clean" version; the unedited version has a profanity-filled tirade which goes on for about 2 minutes, accompanied by the sound of a tinny piano playing from a parlor downstairs.

Who do you think I thought of?
Thanks for playing so much ND Bill. The world needs more of it.
yep and the next pink moon is around 11 April 2017, https://fullmoonphases.com/full-moon-calendar-2017/

Is this the real Lazarus? This post is blue everyone knows Lazarus posts in green! Have the aliens replaced you?

I went to press the "like" link for this comment, but I couldn't find it. (Gotta spend less time on Facebook.)
Anyway, {LIKE}. Had to bump the song from 7 to 8.

Insane? Overdosed on purpose? Probably molested?
What a bunch of horseshit.
Yes, and that so-called "article" was probably from the blog of some fourteen-year-old kid. Anyhow, cool tune.
Nick Drake was a weird, gentle, classically trained, insane singer/songwriter in the Syd Barrett line. Overdosed at twenty-six, probably on purpose. Wrote "Pink Moon." Was born upper-class British, was probably molested, smoked more marijuana than the rest of the world combined, owned and wore only one outfit for the last two years of his life, roamed. Despite writing three of the finest albums in jazz-folk-depressed history (with guest appearances by John Cale and members of the Beach Boys), had no career in his own lifetime, largely due to his refusal to give interviews or play live or even talk. But the longer he's dead, the better he's loved.
If you don't like Nick Drake - don't worry. He probably wouldn't have liked you either! He's a god in my eyes along with much of the music industry. And he's badly missed in this age of over-produced, manipulated, predictable and immaterial pop crap that has a shelf life shorter than a jam doughnut.
Yeah, and because it was on the internet, it's true, right?

Yes I am thank you. Listening to Nick Drake is always fun. For some reason the beauty of his songs always overcomes the melancholy for me. This leaves me less touched by the sadness than the magnificence of the music.
Well said, ScottishWillie; I agree completely!
love this song...

I think if I was in your church Lazarus, I'd be slowly walking along the tops of the pews, easily balanced by these sonnets!
Cheers
I be in a church now... everybody in my church be dancing... hope you are having fun right this minute...
love this song...
absolutely beautiful song... love this...

if you watch the documentary "a skin too few" you will learn that he hasn't overdosed on purpose but that it was a medical
error on behalf of his doctor. just for the record.
either way, on of the most tragic losses of the musical history.
Very special guitar playing and voice.
Please more!

what i call "the Van Gogh syndrome"....their gift is driven by their pain.........or is their pain driven by their gift ?
This is one seriously needy performer.
Overall, the albumn is a major downer
Talent is undeniable... but no reason to inflict this on us... and I extend to whole Pink Moon effort
Well jeez Bob...how do you err....explain the high ratings then? No need to play music for people that those people like, huh?

My impression of the album was the same. "Downer" is putting it lightly - it is downright chilling in it's depression and hopelessness.
However, I bought it with the box set, and the other 2 albums are more light.
He makes melancholy music because he was a melancholy man.
"On 25 November 1974, Drake died from an overdose of amitriptyline, a prescribed antidepressant; he was 26 years old."
He is probably my favourite artist of all time and I find your comment uneducated and unbelievably stupid
Weird, I didn't know the date, he died on my birthday.
Let's ALL have a song comment catch-phrase! I like yours. I think mine will be "Gimme."
Seconded!

Blasphemer!!!!!
Nope. Song still great. Your taste still questionable. Must be the fumes from all those oil wells down there in Texas...
...and by my unscientific calculations, being dead will add approximately 1.7 points onto an artist's average rating.

It's really sad when human beings with their amazing communication skills and vocabulary have to fling the "f" word around and insult one another's opinions and tastes.
What makes me even more sad is "discovering" an artist, like Nick Drake, like Kristy MacColl, like Danny Gatton, only to find out they've passed on... What do you think they'd make of these attacks that are supposed to pass as "comments"?
I agree completely - the attacks you refer to have no place here or in public discourse in general. Not to worry, though; most of the conversation here is pretty civil. If you take a moment to look at the names of the people flinging around the stupid talk, you'll find they're not here very long or very often. They find they're not welcome. Water seeks its own level. (With the exception of the stubbornest trolls - they just take longer to leave. I could name names ... )

Nice. That fits quite well.
So glad Mr. Goldsmith introduced this kind young man's music into my life. It is richer and fuller for it. This is the reason that my homepage is RP.
And that's okay. I think we all manage to miss some music that we should have encountered. And even if we just discover something because it's "in fashion" (which is very much not my case, and I suspect 99% of us on here), so? If you appreciate the music made by Nick Drake, hats off to you! If you discovered it because a shallow friend who tries to be trendy introduced you to it, so? If you really like it, cool. Doesn't matter how you found out about it.
Good point. I'm 47 and like you I consider myself more musicallyknowledgable than the "average" person (whatever that means) basically because I have been listening to and reading about music all my life. Yet (and this ie one of the great things about music), I am constantly "discovering" people that I had heard about, or read about, or even heard a song or two by, but never really explored. And Nick Drake is one of these and yes, the VW commercials really made me take note of him for the first time too.
I also believe there are artists that for whatever reason, I just didn't get or appreciate when I was younger. I can't say that the 20 year old or even the 30 year old me would have appreciated him based on what I was listening to at the time. But the 47 year old thinks his stuff is pretty good (and I make no apologies for how I came to realize this).
Peace.
Wow I am on a roll...
You ever think that maybe the people just discovering Drake are young and are not crochety bitches like yourself? Maybe they are just coming into adulthood and learning what good music is. Quit over generalizing and kill yourself.
Nick was clearly in a place I never want to visit when he made this album but the music that came out of it was undeniable beautiful. How can someone so tortured produce something so wonderful?
It is how we attempt to survive... even if we do not survive.
We create ultimate beauty in the darkness.
