Actually... check the dates:
1988: Fisherman's Blues
1989: Carry Me
It's sad but true! Though I doubt that any copying was intentional. Knowing The Levs like I do, they are key on originality...
I originally gave this a 4 because it was bland but inoffensive. But now I have to give it a 2 because it is also endless.
Nothing new in this derivative pub junk... boring.
Like a terrible collision of the Pogues and ersatz country music. *watches (and listens to) the wreckage pile up*

Except for the fact that this song came out 1 YEAR before the Waterboys released Fisherman Blues :)
Well then, it looks like Mike Scott and the Waterboys stole the fiddle part and came up with a masterpiece, which Fishermans Blues arguably is. Traditional and Pop at the same time, it packed with heart wrenching strings and stories.
If Scott was influenced by the Levellers, then I think maybe it was a good thing because Fisherman's Blues was so very differenct from what the Waterboys had created.
Sounds like the Alarm as well.
Dullsville. And whiny, too.
Very Nice. Almost like a lullaby.

good song, but not too original.

Sort of a Celtic cowboy Dylanesque thing... ....
LOL. A little Pogues in there as well.
It does sound like a mish-mash of a few different familiar tunes, which I actually don't mind. The message of being there for your copatriot carries it along. A little on the band: https://www.folkworld.de/20/e/cds4.html
Okay, now I'd like to go level some pints and dance in the rain.
not impressed....

They are from Brighton.
Is that Joe Strummer?
*petrol bombs the state*
This song always makes me want to be an anarchist.

Definitely --- the fiddle is a dead-on rip.

I know I commented on this song the last time it played... but I'm pretty sure it's not the same version. Is this live, or something?
Time to firebomb the state!

They've been busted!!!!!!! Ask George Harrison, lawsuits are no fun!
It is VERY similar, but not close enough for lawsuits! Many Celtic folk riffs are very similar...so they don't even bother! This one's in a minor key and FB is major.

Levellers!!! I had nigh on forgotten all about them and how good they were (are)! Thanks for the timely reminder. ;)
Just heard the Levellers for the first time. Great sound on - "Carry Me" . I hope to hear more from them on Radio Paradise!
and I thought I was the only one who played harmonica in an Irish band.
Yee-hah, great song from the Levellers!! "15 years" is one of my favourites of theirs - but just great to hear anything.
You can't beat RP!!
Great song! Good work Bill!!
Another group I\'d never heard of save for RP and am thoroughly enjoying!
Good to hear the Levellers! A song of theirs I recall from the early 90\'s that would sound really nice if you can dig it up is \"This Garder\" (I think that is the title.)
Thanks.
