Not a flute. It’s an irish low whistle. Bass version of a penny whistle, if you like. Looks like a chrome exhaust pipe and is an impressive sight to watch being played like this.

It's porridge oats in Scotland, pal, and if the AfroCelts are porridge then it's heavily spiced with African and Indian flavours. I think it deliberately has that trip-hop, background-sound element to it.  There are more than enough things in life which demand my attention - music need not be one of them.  It works as "aural wallpaper".

This album has some Enigma production qualities in terms of anticipation tracks, peaks and valleys, reprises and build-ups.  Still not sure if it's better than #2, but we'll see.  Just picked it up on Amazon.

You might not feel this way if you had ever seen them perform live. I saw them last year touring in support of "Seed", with the same line-up. Actually less reliance on synthesizers and production on this album than in some of the earlier ones.Absolutely incredible show, full of energy and passion as well as moments of lyrical sublimity, especially featuring flute. Johnny Kalsi, the lone Indian musician, puts on a particularly incredible live performance, dancing his dhol drum all over the stage.
