If he DID do covers, who would he %&#@?
Sarah McLachlan, of course! That would complete the circle.
more evidence that nobody does everything well.

Ok, we get the joke. Again. Actually, this cover is better than the Sarah McLachlan one. That one is just slightly better than Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk singing the hits of the 60s!! Some day, Sarah will be on some talk show and they will play that song for her to embarrass her and get some laughs.
Next we'll get Leonard Nimoy doing "Your Famous Blue Raincoat" and my life will be complete!
Ok. I am totally bracing myself now for some awful David Hasselhof butchering of someone else's song.....

Wow, a series of 2 great artists doing covers of 2 great songs -- badly. First, Sarah McLachlan covering Solsbury Hill, followed by Peter Gabriel doing Leonard Cohen's Suzanne. Proves even the greats can whiff, although Peter's might be more of a foul ball.
I agree that this is one of the worst covers of a good song that I have ever heard :(
I LOVE Peter Gabriel. I LOVE Leonard Cohen. But in this case the sum is FAR LESS than each of the parts. This recording was a mistake.

And here we are again. I think Sarah's was the more foul cover, personally.
"Cohen's refuse"?? This is an incredibly beautiful song as done by Mr. Cohen. While I like PG a fair amount, this is one of those "why'd ya bother?" numbers devoid of any magic... sigh...

Can I get my station donation back?
Diversity is the reason we listen to RP, so I'm happy to hit the "mute" button when the experience goes off key. And this IS off key. Seeing LC do this song in concert was one of the formative experience of my teen-age years. Stunning.
So this is how it works: Sarah McLachlan f@#¶s Peter Gabriel, who then f&%#s Leonard Cohen. Good thing Cohen doesn't do covers. (Or does he?)

I would rate Peter Gabriel a 10 if he were singing "99 Bottles of Beer." Make it a Leonard Cohen cover, and it's almost too cool.
Sorry everyone, I'm with this guy: LONG LIVE PETER GABRIEL!
Ok, Now how about Faster Pussycat's version of "You're so Vain". At least it's interesting. Can I get my station donation back?
AGHHHHHHH! make it stop.
looks like some people got their wish!

Yeah really! If I had my own station, I would be overexposing Wayne Newton. HE ROCKS!!
I saw Wayne live recently. He has lost the voice.

Now can we have Fatima Mansions doing 'Paper Thin Hotel'?

Enough Peter Gabriel already!!! I mean he is good - but this station over-exposes him big time!!!!

This, Sisters Of Mercy - Sting and The Chieftains & Story Of Issac - Suzanne Vega are some of the best Cohen covers on this tribute album.

i'd rather hear joan baez sing this.
What's this things are going down hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gabriel does Cohen? Nooooo. No.
Big fan of PG, but I can't say I care for this song at all.
I heard the original Cohen version of this earlier today. I can't say that I care for either version though I can at least stay awake during Gabriel's cover.
yikes...not a fan of this one, and i like peter g.

:iamwith: *NOT* !! yuck.. excellent talent wasted on Cohen's refuse.
Overwrought and uninteresting.
Another tedious cover... No one but Cohen should ever sing this.

mildly interesting, but especially for this song, no one can do it up like Mr. Cohen himself, godluv'im.
I would rate Peter Gabriel a 10 if he were singing "99 Bottles of Beer." Make it a Leonard Cohen cover, and I can barely stand it.
Just a question: How come the REM song Hope (from Up) doesn't have Leornard Cohen listed as a cowriter? That song is an obvious borrowing of this song...
Tastes like chicken.
While Leonard Cohen's original is the classic, I just love the pacing of this version, and the ethereal backing vocals/instrumentation. I never tire of it. Bravo, Pete.
Peter Gabriel covering Leonard Cohen...wow. Cool. I've liked this song for a while and it is great to hear a new interpretation. I think I like it.
