I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

Anyone else hearing traces of Let 'Em In by Paul McCartney and the Wings?
A gorgeous tune.

yeah - I love this band and this album is a 10
This song was playing on the radio when I drove away from the doctor's office with my partner, just having learned that I had stage 3 colon cancer. It was a sad, sad song then, and bittersweet to hear it now that I'm looking back over 18 years to that day.

I don't hate this song, but holy hell this comment contains a grain of truth and made me laugh.

I am keen on this group.
For 18 years I heard him singing "sympathy" instead of "simple thing"

When I was a touring musician (in the 1980s) I had a CP70B and it's true, it can go out of tune. I made sure that my road crew handled the top half with care and it had a padded flight case and so it only needed tuning every week or so (though I do remember doing five nights at a London venue and they paid for it to be tuned every night). Now I have a Nord Stage 2 - amazing piece of kit!

Yep, that about sums it up... and just because the Beatles or Neil Young did it doesn't mean anyone can get away with it.

As a pianist, the thing that annoys me about this is that he used the Yamaha CP-70B (a stage version of a grand piano, which was portable and used strings and hammers, but had no soundboard) which sounds thin and inadequate. I'm sure they could have used a decent piano (a Bosendorfer Imperial would be my choice, or a Fazioli).

Nice tune! I never heard of them before. Thank You RP!
I first heard this song sung by Lily Allen in a TV spot for the Labour Party. I don't spell Labour that way--I live in the U.S. But that ad made me cry, and want to vote Labour! And then I heard the original by Keane, and loved it in a whole different way. Love love love this song.

Now that's a way to critique a song instead of the usual "WHY ARE YOU PLAYING TOP 40 SCHLOCK" and a thousand Emojis

Video/single was different eh? OK, I just looked it up and they made THREE different videos. This one (the "official" version) sounds the same to me... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oextk-If8HQ
Looking thru the comments I'm wondering if Bill swapped out the album version for whatever was previously in the library?
Why can't we hear the track as it was back when it was released? This doesn't sound like it did on the video.

Im not saying I love this song but it brings back a lot of good memories when I was living in Dublin Ireland. Today I think I should have stayed there and never come back home.
But we cant rewind we've gone too far.

Neil Young has been doing this piano pling pling pling for a lot longer than these guys. Maybe if they added strings or a better arrangement of the music? His singing is the best part of the song. I like the song but I suppose it can get repetitive.

I would love to hear a version of this with just his voice and strings (violin(s), stand up base). If it exists, please let me know.
they must get famously, famous.
I wonder when the lead singer first comprehended he has a really pleasant/beautiful voice. What was that experience like for him, and how did it happen?
rockin' tune

not necessarily a bad song... but it quickly tires itself out and becomes rather annoying and amateurish-sounding after a few listens.
it really does kind of sound like a kiddie version of Travis, actually.

I believe this is either a live BBC version or the UK/European version of this track.
I agree with all the coments so far saying that the album version is much tighter than this one, which seems more... I don't know. Drone-y? Certainly less aurally interesting.

Close. Nowhere near as dynamic as Freddie, but close.
Though this tune is whiney, for a damb close to 30 year old male who is going through a bit of a pre mid life crissis, this song says it all!
Limp.

Funny thing that they sound like Travis...I saw them open for Travis in Toronto last year. They were somewhat less than exciting live.

I like "Let 'Em In". A lot. So I guess that makes 4 of us. And I thought this was a pretty good song, nice vocals.
This CD has been in my player for about a month and I really like this band a great deal. Looking forward to seeing them at the Coachella Festival in April.
I, too, would like to know where this version comes from even though it is no where near as good as the CD version.

They were FANTASTIC on SNL last week.

Btw, some bad soundquality on this song, and a bizzare version of the original one I've heard on the radios..
