All the streets are crammed with things
Eager to be held
I know what hands are for
And I'd like to help myself
You ask me the time
But I sense something more
And I would like to give you
What I think you're asking for
You, handsome devil
Oh you, handsome devil

Let me get my hands
On your mammary glands
And let me get your head
On the conjugal bed
I say, I say, I say
I crack the whip
And you skip
But you deserve it
You deserve it

A boy in the bush is worth two in the hand
I think I can help you get through your exams

Oh you, handsome devil
Oh let me get my hands
On your mammary glands
And let me get your head
On the conjugal bed
I say, I say, I say
I crack the whip
And you skip
But you deserve it
You deserve it

And when you're in your scholarly room
Who will swallow whom

You, handsome devil
Let me get my hands
On your mammary glands
And let me get your head
On the conjugal bed
I say, I say, I say

There's more to life than books, you know
But not much more
There's more to life than books, you know
But not much more
Not much more

Oh you, handsome devil

Excellent!! But, rude lyrics!  Thank You RP!
Let me get my hands
On your mammary glands
And let me get your head
On the conjugal bed
I said, I said, I say
{#Clap}

Oh, this is brilliant. The Smiths could do no wrong. Thanks, Bill.
Bill, you handsome devil - that same riff is in Vast's "Frog," played just prior! Genius...
Definitely not their best.  I agree with others that this song should have only seen the "cutting room floor."
the smiths: every song was exactly the same; the same drag

Not only does this song blow oats, but Morrissey's gawdawful singing completely overshadows any glimmer of talent any of the other members of the Smiths may have had.

I keed, I keed. Actually it's much worse than I described. {#Rolleyes} I'm usually very open-minded about music, but this song flat-out sucks, IMHO.

That's really generous

E-gads, this is awful!!!
Some of there stuff is ok to listen to but why did they even bother to record this?

i admit i'm a "smiths can do no wrong" fan. If only they would re-unite, but Mo' dead set against it. Coachella last yr (yr before?) offered them in the neighbourhood of $5,000,000 to play 45 min set.

Hardcore Smiths fan here and you are a twat!!! See not so easy after all

Oh yeah! 100% diggin the Smiths on RP.
The vocals are very unpleasant to my ears. I often change radio stations when The Smiths come on.
Sorry, but just can't get past that voice (or at least I think its a voice)
nice '80s depri rock
and I didnt attend their concert 1987 in Ann Arbor,  because there would be plenty of more opportunities to see them{#Yell}

I really do prefer the (non?)production on the early Smiths cuts. I guess because Morrissey is kept down in the mix and Marr and the rhythm section are prominent.

Not that I don't like Morrissey, but his vocal abilities are not why people listen to the Smiths.

Uh. Speak for yourself. Marr is a brilliant guitarist, but in fact, Morrissey is the main reason I like The Smiths, and I would be folding money I'm not the only one holding that view.

Hard to say anything bad about Morrissey without having all the hard core "Smiths" fans mount an attack.

For the record: I love Morrissey and consider myself a "hard core fan," but think it's stupid to "attack" anyone who doesn't care for him, as I can totally understand why people hold that view. So please don't act as though we're some sort of monolithic bunch. (I do think that comments like "this song blows oats" are sort of silly, but hey, let a thousand flowers bloom. This is an internet comment board, not a university symposium on post-punk music.)

"Let me get my hands on your mammary glands." Gotta love it. BREASTS BREASTS BREASTS BREASTS!!!!!!!

Nah! Always a good song. One of their first singles. "There's more to life than books you know...but not much more...but not much more...I crack the whip and you skip. But you deserve it, you deserve it!!"
Wow. Just when you think Morrissey can't get any worse, you're proven wrong.
Wonder what he did with the money his mom gave him for singing lessons.
One of their best rockers. Terrific cracking riff from Marr; snide, sharp lyrics from the Mozz. Comes across well live.
There's more to life than books, you know... but not much more
This is definitely S&M .. Cracking a Whip and all of that .. Nasty, catch my hands ... on the conjugal bed ... TMI
A great one

Oh yes there can! Too much, in fact. Can't sing! Can't anyone else hear that?
I agree. Is it too much to ask of "professional musicians" that they have some skill? The melody of this song has about six different notes, and he only hits 'em about half the time.

A bitchin' riff by Mr Marr!
PLEASE can we have a break form the SMITHS...enough already
Bad even for them.

When you finish digging, chuck it in and bury it forever would you, please?

this makes my head hurt
After reading some comments here.. This song funny?? nope..it's just terrible, the Smiths have become really dated.
joelsephus wrote:

That cracked me up. Not many songs make me laugh out loud. I assume he meant it to be tongue-in-cheek.
It sounds exactly like "What Difference Does It Make?" to me.
This dude canno' sing!
Marr of course was a talented guy who knew how to play the right riff.... also the rythmic wing of smith's was great... but.... morrissey's lyrics.... were works of art
I never was a big Smiths fan, but the music to this song kind of rocks. I'm digging this one.

I just have never been able to stand this guy's voice.
see, more good 80's music that thankfully didnt make it to the radio

I sadly have to disagree.... I really enjoy the segues here most of the time, but this is not one of them

Oddly, I know a few gay men who seem to have a bizarre pre-occupation with mammary glands. I don't understand it myself, but there you go.
Pretty cool segue from Blue Man Group!

Still around...the Healers, Electronic... (click here) The reason I like the Smiths is mostly because of Marr's guitar and the rythm section. Good stuff.

Yeah, that's what I'd like to know too. Great talent. Seems like he just disappeared.

This song is great! It's hysterical!
Smiths. Sucko. I'm off to lunch now. Bye.
Mammary glands? That's not hot.
But what is he really trying to say? Why does he sugar-coat it?
Let me get my hands on your mammary glands? Whoa.

Let me get my hands on your mammary glands? What the hell is this sh!t? The song works, but the lyrics and vocals are asinine..,

Quite possibly the campist Smiths song :daisy.gif:
