You look like... a perfect fit,
For a girl in need... of a tourniquet.
But can you save me?
Come on and save me...
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone.

'Cause I can tell... you know what it's like.
A long farewell... of the hunger strike.
But can you save me?
Come on and save me...
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone.

You struck me dumb, Like radium
Like Peter Pan, or Superman,
You have come... to save me.
Come on and save me...
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
Except the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
But the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone.

Come on and save me...
Why don't you save me?
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
Except the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
Except the freaks,
Who could never love anyone.

this is just great - fine run of music Bill, thank you
Many suicides could be prevented by not airing her songs. Ironic song title.
Good song. Great movie from which it hails. Yep.

Yes, after that album, I really can't take anything else from Amy Mann — it all sounds the same — and nasally! — and doesn't have the dramatic force that the film music carried.

Lots of blowing going on, here.  Not too keen on the Casio / Stylophone effects.  Hang on, Goldfrapp is on, must go.

There's no need for that kind of talk.
Something about her voice is so annoying...kind of nasal, as others have said, but it's not just that. It seems so flat and emotionless. I really liked "Voices Carry" way back in the day, but can't think of one other instance where I've enjoyed her singing.

Aimee Mann really can't do much wrong in my book. I still remember her starting out with Til Tuesday.
Yes.  Aimee is loved in Brooklyn, my home town.
I like the studio version quite a bit more than this one.
yeah lets face it...

I can't stand Aimee Mann or Bob Dylan.  I feel bad, I know I should love them but I reach for the tuner when they come on.  I'd be happy with just about any other band/singer covering their songs...

This is awful to my ears..
What a unique voice.  So sensual and effortless.   Love you, Aimee!  {#Sunny}

I feel like this song is beating me into submission.  8.

Affective lyrics and music that rivets one to reality is not a bummer.  Why do too many only like the vacuous stuff that never challenges and only helps us to stick are heads in the proverbial sand.

Well, I guess I don't have anything good to say, so..............

Sombody shave her already!

Requires of the proper ambiance to be enjoyed fully ... it does sound emotion-less at times ... maybe she was suffering of scenic fear at the time ... oh well, what the heck do I know about performing anyway! {#Devil_pimp}
I'm beyond suspicion.

I love this song, it reminds me of the movie Magnolia.
Mannly Mann...a great song that endures.{#Yes}{#Kiss}
Love this woman.  Even 'Til Tuesday.
I hate how much this song speaks to me when I hear it—despite really loving the song itself.

Well, at this point the track title says it all.

What a woman is Mann.

Thanks to RP from this song began my acquaintance with Aimee Mann.

Love RP, Love Aimee Mann

I love Aimee Mann solo, and I also love her work with 'Til Tuesday.  She had a lot of industry obstacles to overcome, but I'm glad she's still performing. Her music always inspires me to try to be creative and eloquent. Sometimes, I even succeed...{#Daisy}

she doesn't smile a lot. and the venue was on a large outdoor stage. i was fortunate enough to be front row :) one of the few shots which capture her expression and gives a sense of the scope of the venue.

Technically excellent singers may be found at the local high school, church choir and subway stations. Soul baring singer-songwriters? A bit more rare, but still common. Soul touching singer songwriters? Pretty hard to find - but there's one here, in my book.

After reading the latest comments about this being draggy, I listened to the studio recording and guess what ... it's practically the same tempo! But somehow, due to the instrumentation or something, the studio version seems more "upbeat." Something like that. To me, anyway.

BTW, I still really like it.

I like Aimee 'n all, but I am getting tired of this track. I'm not at the MUTE stage yet, but I wish we'd hear some other songs from her catalog.

Typical of her writing style... never go to one of her shows in a dancing mood! Listening mood, yes!

wow, so many people dislike her voice. Amiee Mann is a hero to me and others. She writes and sings her heart out, and you can feel it. I never thought of her voice as "nasally," and maybe she's not the best vocalist in the world, and this song isn't her best, but her work as a whole really has always moved me. There's no media facade, no mask, no celebrity vomiting. She speaks from the heart and I love her. One of the best.

I just wish she would learn to open her mouth when she sings. I really likes parts of her singing, but for the love of God, open your mouth and stop singing through your nose.

I like this song and Aimee Mann and this statement is partly why: she has a really sassy, smart-ass but cool air that I find refreshing and appealing. I would really like to see her live.

I think I see what is meant in comparing their voices. Not the actual sound, but rather the way they both sing. Aimee sings strong or soft, strident or sweet in the same way I would think Chrissie would if she were singing the same song.

The lyrics to this song are so great... really captures the horrors of dating better than any I've heard. Love the song and Aimee, but like the studio cut better, it's crisper and the harmonies are better. This song is fun to play on the guitar too, the rythms she puts in her songs in the interplay of the vocals and the guitars is very fun to play, and carries me away into the joy of a beautifully made song.
Nice recovery from the '80's, I must say . . .
I hope it doesn't start raining frogs...
Bumped to 8 for being live edit- And anyone who compares her voice to Chrissy Hyndes awesome pipes is just nuts. Totally.

Hey JC! I know and I'm a writer and teach English too! I'm just mad since she left Til Tuesday. Now that stuff is great, let's hear some of that.
I think that the singer and song are perfect for each other, it is a nice match and I like it

Please Stop!!!! Turn off her nose!!!
I do love this song, despite the nasal tendency in her voice. But... (sorry) every time it plays, there's one section that sounds exactly like The Carpenters tune Long ago, and oh so far away... It's distracting.

I hate to admit it, but I am listening while stuck with a head cold, and I hit exactly the same inflections Aimee does as I warble along with this tune. But no worries erudite listeners, this only makes me like Aimee Mann even more. Who wants a bunch of vocalists with perfectly chiseled pipes and monochrome singing styles?
Among the best film music of all time.
What is this now, 20-years since 'Til Tuesday?
