My true love drowned in a dirty old pan
Of oil that did run from the block
Of a Falcon sedan 1969
The paper said '75
There were no survivors
None found alive
Trees break the sidewalk
And the sidewalk skins my knees
There's glass in my thermos
And blood on my jeans
Nickels and dimes of the Fourth of July
Roll off in a crooked line
To the chain-link lots where the red tails dive
Oh, how I forgot what it's like
Hey when she sings, when she sings, when she sings like she runs
Moves like she runs
Hey when she moves, when she moves, when she moves like she runs
Moves like she runs
Hey there, there's such deadly wolves 'round town tonight
Round the town tonight
Hey there, there's such deadly wolves 'round town tonight
Round the town tonight
Hey pretty baby get high with me
We can go to my sister's if we say we'll watch the baby
The look on your face yanks my neck on the chain
And I would do anything
I would do anything
To see you again
So I've fallen behind
Hey when she sing, when she sing, when she sing like she runs
Move like she runs
Hey when she move, when she moves, when she moves like she runs
Moves like she runs
Hey there, there's such deadly wolves 'round town tonight
Round the town tonight
Hey there, there's such deadly wolves 'round town tonight
Round the town tonight
Go on, go on and scream and cry
You're miles from where anyone will find you
This is nothing new, no television crew
They don't even put on the sirens
My nightgown sweeps the pavement
Please don't let her die
Oh how I forgot

Not a bad song on this album
How can anything else compare to the submarine sonar-ping intro to this showcase for one of the most amazing voices and songwriters ever?!

"Glass in the Thermos" immediately freezes this into a particular time for me.
and the complacency of - "They don't even put on the siren."
and the complacency of - "They don't even put on the siren."
The lyrics are so bleak, matched to such a sweet tune. One of my all-time favorites.
Chills on the beautiful piano at the end of that one. Love it.
Still amazing.
Stunning voice. A favorite.

Hey RP, Thanks, thanks a lot.
non-survivors are typically almost 100% never found alive.
I need a cigarette...and I have never smoked a day in my life.
This is such a great album overall...a must own if you like her.
absolutely awesome... sigh...
wonderful... sigh...
I have an insatiable appetite for this song.
love it...
marvelous... sigh...
My one and only complaint with RP: When songs overlap in transition and the first few notes of the next song mingle with the final few notes of the song that is ending. On most songs it doesn't matter. On this one, to me at least, it does.
when is it nothe case?

I cannot get enough of Neko and especially this song. The amazing lyrics could only be matched by her performance.
This, my friends, is the best antidote for the pap that passes for music on corporate FM radio and shows like American Idol.
It's music like this that motivates my monthly support to this station.

When each piece of this amazing gal's work emerged on RP as if a fully-formed glowing planetary system from a new and rapidly expanding galaxy, I found that I just couldn't get enough...and I must say that over the years since, each of these songs can still bring such a swoon and swirl of images, feelings, mysteries and enigmas that I can get nothing done but must sit and listen, rapt, as ever, by that voice, that music, that talent!
I love this song.
I hate Neko Case and it seems I hear her at least once a day on RP.

My favorite song from this album. RP introduced me to Neko — saw her a few years ago and she was great live as well.

She sounds good but way too much of her is played here. Just remove every 4th or 5th with a little Sam Phillips or Nina Gordon.
Wow, the lyrics of this song reminds me of growing up on the western plains, on the east slope of the rockies. Perfect.

She really is fantastic. She's gritty, soulful, and her voice just has a timbre like no one else's. I can't take her in huge doses but that's because the medicine's just that strong. :)
When I was on the fence about liking Neko, this was the song that sealed the deal. Now Im in love with her and everything she does.
